Rigobert Song signed for Liverpool midway through the 98/99 season and made his debut
against Coventry on the 30th January 1999. From the start, Song was touted to be the rock
around which Houllier's new defence would be built around. However, he had some difficulty
settling down, having to play in an unfamiliar wide position. In spite of that, Song has
become a fan favourite and at his young age, he is already a regular on the internationalscene.
This season, Song has played as right-back and has put in several convincing displays.
Yet, the Cameroon international has found himself contending with Vegard Heggem for his place
in the starting line-up. With Henchoz and Hyypia booking the central defence slots, Song would
have to continue as right-back for some time. |
