Chain Reaction
Having been largely treated with rank indifference, Hurricane #1 continue to improve at terminal
velocity. This distorted version of 'Chain Reaction' - overhauled from the original album demos - takes
us closer still to Andy bell's true post-Ride vision: scuzzball rock'n'roll conducted with nonchalant
swagger and sung with wilfully jagged vocals.
That this vision might have already been pursued and rendered obsolete by labelmates Oasis, makes
Andy Bell's insistence that he can mimic - and ultimately better - it all the more exhilarating. There's a
certain Kamikaze mentality to the whole venture that makes 'Chain Reaction' a real must. What's more,
singer (and ex-boxer) Alex Lowe has already 'enjoyed' one aborted fight with Liam Gallagher, so the
spirit's there at least.
