Review: Burning London! Tribute to the Clash

Tribute albums almost always blow. We dig the honorees, but who needs lame remakes by wet-behind-the-ears nobodies? Luckily, when it came to the Clash, an all-star roster lined up to pay homage: Ska hit makers predominate (No Doubt's "Hateful", Rancid's "Cheat"), giving the Clash's original reggae fixation a cool 90's twist. Other inspired choices: Alterna-rockers Cracker instigate a twangier "White Riot", and the Afghan Whigs find new soul in "Lost in the Supermarket". OK, Ice Cube's rap-by-numbers version of "Should I Stay or Should I Go" should have, um, gone, but we'll save our real bitching for when Jewel gets recruited for an AC/DC tribute.
