Ice Cube 900k QuickTime |
It's no surprise that Ice Cube and Mack 10 have several more collaborative projects in the works, but what they're working on might turn some heads.
After helping out on Mack 10's hit "Only In California" and teaming with the rapper for the "Bullworth" soundtrack, the two planned to work together again on Mack 10's upcoming album "The Recipe," but cranked out another less likely project first.
"Me and him just did a remix of the Clash song 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go,'" Cube told our friends in the MTV Radio Network on Friday. "That should be hitting on this Clash reunion album... not Clash reunion, but Clash (tribute) album [800k QuickTime] that Sony is supposed to release. But I didn't do a record for 'The Recipe' yet. We're supposed to do it. Yeah, we're going to do the record, but we haven't done it yet."
As we previously reported (see "Bush, 311, Rancid To Work Over The Clash"), Bush, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rancid, and 311 were among the artists expected to turn up on a Clash tribute album that was to be released by Ark 21 Records last fall. There's no word yet if Cube's track will turn up alongside those offerings, and Sony said they were unaware of the project.
Meanwhile, as Ice Cube continues his penchant for high-profile collaborations, he said that the likelihood that he'll collaborate with his old N.W.A. partners Dr. Dre, M.C. Ren and DJ Yella is pretty slim.
"I don't know. Everybody should write Dr. Dre. He don't want to do it, so everybody should write to Dre. He's the only one that don't want to do it," [550k QuickT ime] Cube said when asked if the surviving members of N.W.A. would ever reunite. The group's fifth member, Ruthless Records founder Eazy-E, died in 1995 of complications due to AIDS.
