The Clash, one of the greatest bands of all time have decided to tell their story in a documentary film, "Westway To The World" and release the long awaited live album "From Here To Eternity".
The Clash were the band who made punk real, they were the last great British Rock'n'Roll band. They were the coolest, the most political, the most eclectic and most thrilling of all the punk bands. Blasting away from the parochial concerns of the London Punk scene of the late 1970's, The Clash explored musical boundaries like no act before, or since. According to no less authority than Rolling Stone Magazine they made the album of the 1980s, "London Calling". They mixed Reggae, Soul, R&B, funk, Hip Hop and solid Rock'n'Roll long before sampling had been invented. The Clash had the Look, the Walk and the Talk.. For seven years they set the agenda for future generations of bands.
In 1981 the Clash played in front of a screaming, adoring full house at the Shea Stadium as their fifth album, 'Combat Rock' stood in the Top 5 of the American charts. A little over a year later they were no more. Seven years living, touring and recording without a break had taken its toll on the individuals and the band disolved. The story of The Clash has never been fully explored or told by the people who were there. Until now.
"Westway To The World" is the first time that all the members of the band have talked about their lives in such detail. On October 2nd on BBC2 the film is to be screened at 11.00pm, whilst on October 4th the long awaited live album, "From Here To Eternity" is to be released on Columbia Records.
Joe, Mick and Paul personally spent weeks listening to all available live recordings, before selecting 17 tracks, which were mixed by Bill Price. Mick Jones oversaw mixing, while Paul Simonon has created the cover art and designed a booklet to be included in the package.
"From Here To Eternity" was recorded between 1978-82 at various venues including London's Victoria Park, Music Machine, Lyceum and Lewisham Odeon, and gigs at The Shea Stadium, Bonds in New York and The Orphean in Boston.
"From Here To Eternity" is to be released on CD, cassette, mini disc and as a double gatefold sleeved vinyl album.
