i have been asked this question a million times and my answer is always different, so i will attempt answer it here in a semi-coherent manner.

To me, to be goth is a way of life. A way of thinking. it's not just pale white faces and black cloths. It's not just music. Althought those things ARE goth, its not all goth is.

this is a last minute adition for famine. He says you are not goth if you cant drink a STRONG screwdriver..~smiles at famine~ happy now milord?

to be goth is different for everyone. You cant really set a standard for goth, because, as soon as you do, some one will come along and tear it down.

ok..so, why do i consider myself goth?

my taste in cloths and music are one reason. The thought of wearing "a little color" as my mom says makes me ill. i wear black because all my pink cloths are dirty.

and as for the music i listen to..i like anything that makes me feel. i like all kinds of music. My cd collection consits of Marlyn Manson, NIN, the Cure, the Doors, Sisters of Mercy, Tool, Metalica, Misfits and even some disco, yes, disco. i mostly listen to NIN, because i can identify with the songs. to me...thats what good music is. Music that makes you feel. now i know most of those are not gothic. Oh well, shoot me.

Like i said...the outward apperience and music is only a small part of being goth. For me, the fact that i am goth appears in my personality. It shows in my poetry and moods. My way of thinking. My way of facing the world. My intrest in the dark side. My choice to live at night. My hatred of the sun. My love of the darkness. My overwhelming feelings. My passion and lust. My depression and anger. It is my life.

Goth can really be anything you want. Every individual makes it what it is to him/her. there are common threads that tie us, but thats about it.

hmmm....anyways...i dont know if that made any damn sense. spend some time on my page...get to know me, and you might be able to fiqure out wha the hell i am talking about.~evil grin~
