CD ONE
- 1. Free As A Bird - In February 1994, the surviving Beatles added new music and lyrics to John Lennon's 1977 demo tape.
- 2. Speech: John Lennon - John Lennon talking with Jann Wenner about forming the Beatles.
- 3. That'll Be The Day - A rare 1958 recording made in Liverpool of the Quarry Men covering the Buddy Holly song.
- 4. In Spite Of All The Danger -Another Quarry Men from 1958, a McCartney/Harrison composition.
- 5. Speech: Paul McCartney - Paul talking with Mark Lewisohn in 1994 about recording at home.
- 6. Hallelujah, I Love Her So - Three recordings made at Paul McCartney's house in 1960. Originally written by Ray Charles, this recording was largely influenced by the Eddie Cochran cover version.
- 7. You'll Be Mine - An early Lennon/McCartney song, with humorous backing vocals and spoken middle section by John.
- 8. Cayenne - An instrumental written by McCartney.
- 9. Speech: Paul McCartney - McCartney talking in 1962 about recording in Hamburg.
- 10. My Bonnie - The first of three recordings made June 22, 1961 in Hamburg, Germany. The Beatles with Pete Best on drums backed Tony Sheridan for this recording, which was released as a single and eventually climbed high on the local German charts.
- 11. Ain't She Sweet - This recording, without Sheridan, features the Beatles cover which was performed common in their live act.
- 12. Cry For A Shadow - An another instrumental and the only known Harrison/Lennon composition.
- 13. Speech: John Lennon - John talking with David Wigg in 1971 about the Beatles manager, Brian Epstein.
- 14. Speech: Brian Epstein - Brian Epstein reading an passage from his autobiography "A Cellarful Of Noise" in which he describes the Decca Records audition.
- 15. Searchin' - The first of five tracks from the failed audition for Decca Records on January 1, 1962 with Pete Best on drums. The song, a stage favorite for the Beatles at the time, was written by Leiber and Stoller and first recorded by the Coasters.
- 16. Three Cool Cats - Another Leiber and Stoller comedy number again originally recorded by the Coasters.
- 17. The Sheik Of Araby - This song first appeared in the stage musical Make It Snappy and the 1940 movie Tin Pan Alley.
- 18. Like Dreamers Do - A Lennon/McCartney original which the Beatles never recorded with EMI records, althought in 1964 they gave the song to the Applejacks.
- 19. Hello Little Girl - Another early Lennon/McCartney that was the first song John Lennon ever wrote. Once again, never released by the Beatles, but later given to the Fourmost.
- 20. Speech: Brian Epstein - Brian Epstein reading another passage from "A Cellarful Of Noise" which describes the failed Decca audition and meeting George Martin.
- 21. Besame Mucho - Two songs recorded on June 6, 1962 for the Parlophone audition/recording session during the Beatles' first visit to Abbey Road. They were influenced once again by the Coasters version of this Mexican song, with the Beatles adding in their own distictive "Cha-cha-boom"s.
- 22. Love Me Do - The first version of the the Lennon/McCartney song recorded at Abbey Road. This song was later re-recorded and released as their first single.
- 23. How Do You Do It - "How Do You Do It" was intended by producer George Martin to be the A-side of the Beatles first single and the group recorded the song during the September 4, 1962 session. The Beatles however rejected this Mitch Murray song in favor of their own composition, Love Me Do.
- 24. Please Please Me - Dissatisfied with their drummer, John, Paul and George decided to replace him with Ringo Starr, friend and frequent temporary stand-in for Pete Best. Ringo's first appearance as the new drummer in the studio was for the September 11, 1962, although he was displaced by session drummer Andy White, who was booked before Pete Best was replaced. This is a different version of the second single, most noticibly the absence of the harmonica part.
- 25. One After 909 (Sequence) - Predating the version on Let It Be by six years, this version was recorded March 5, 1963. The track consists of the incomplete takes 3 through 5.
- 26. One After 909 (Complete) - The full Lennon/McCartney song, made by editing takes 4 and 5 together.
- 27. Lend Me Your Comb - Recorded July 2, 1963 for the fifth edition of Pop Go The Beatles, this song was left off the 1994 Live At The BBC album for inclusion here.
- 28. I'll Get You - Recorded live on October 13, 1963 at the Beatles' first appearance on "Sunday Night At The London Palladium," the British equivalent to "The Ed Sullivan Show."
- 29. Speech: John Lennon - John talking with Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone about early live performances.
- 30. I Saw Her Standing There - The first of five songs taken from an October
- 24, 1963 Swedish radio broadcast. John Lennon later said this one of the group's finest performances on stage.
- 31. From Me To You - The groups third single, with introduction from Paul.
- 32. Money (That's What I Want) - Paul introduces this song from their "new LP", With The Beatles.
- 33. You Really Got A Hold On Me - John introduces this Smokey Robinson and the Miracles song.
- 34. Roll Over Beethoven - The Beatles cover of the Chuck Berry classic.
CD TWO
- 1. She Loves You - The first of three songs the November 4, 1963 famous Royal Command Performance, before the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret at the Prince Of Wales Theatre in London. "She Loves You" was the Beatles fourth single.
- 2. Till There Was You - Paul introduces this song, originally from The Music Man.
- 3. Twist And Shout - Last song of the Royal Command Performance with John's famous introduction "Would the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And the rest of you, if you'll just rattle your jewelry."
- 4. This Boy - The first of four tracks from the British TV program "The Morecambe And Wise Show," December 2, 1963.
- 5. I Want To Hold Your Hand - The A-side of their current fifth single.
- 6. Speech: Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise - Humorous bantor between Morecambe and Wise. Ernie Wise then suggests that they all sing a song together.
- 7. Moonlight Bay - Morecambe and Wise and The Beatles humorously singing together.
- 8. Can't Buy Me Love - Recorded in Paris on January 29, 1964, and released as the sixth single. This is unheard take 2.
- 9. All My Loving - The first song performed on the Beatles famous February 9, 1964 apperance on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
- 10. You Can't Do That - Studio take 6, recorded February 25, 1964.
- 11. And I Love Her - Far different from the released version, take 2 features a heavier sound, including drums and a picked electric guitar. Also recorded on February 25, 1964.
- 12. A Hard Day's Night - Recorded April 16, 1964, this is the first take of the song, also far different from the released version.
- 13. I Wanna Be Your Man - The first of four songs recorded on April 19, 1964 for a British TV special called "Around The Beatles." In stereo and without the screaming girls on the TV broadcast.
- 14. Long Tall Sally - Another great vocal performance from Paul for this Little Richard song.
- 15. Boys - Although recorded for "Around the Beatles", this track was not used.
- 16. Shout - An intersting performance of The Isley Brothers' 1959 hit with all four Beatles taking the lead.
- 17. I'll Be Back (Take 2) - John Lennon shows his fondness for the waltz in 3/4. This take breaks down because "It's too hard to sing."
- 18. I'll Be Back (Take 3) - The next take, but the tempo has changed to 4/4 and it sounds more like the released version.
- 19. You Know What To Do - Supposedly the second song that George Harrison ever wrote for a Beatles album (the first was "Don't Bother Me"), but the group never formally recorded it. This demo was recorded June 3, 1964.
- 20. No Reply (Demo) - Also recorded June 3, 1964, this demo was done by John for British artist Tommy Quickly, who never released it.
- 21. Mr. Moonlight - Early take 4, recorded August 14, 1964, with a guitar solo in place of the organ.
- 22. Leave My Kitten Alone - The Beatles' sizzling cover of Little Willie John's 1959 record. Recorded August 14, 1964 during the Beatles For Sale sessions.
- 23. No Reply - Four months after the demo was recorded, the Beatles returned to the song on September 30, 1964. This version, take 2, is more bluesier than the demo.
- 24. Eight Days A Week (Sequence) -A series of unreleased outtakes 1,2 and 4.
- 25. Eight Days A Week (Complete) - The complete take 5 which starts and ends with a nice vocal harmony far different from the released version.
- 26. Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey! - Take 2 in the studio recorded October 18, 1964.
