351 1970 XY GT
In Australia this Ford Falcon has become a collectors item, with the Phase III HO, being the ultimate collectors car, fetching $50,000 +. Registration plates fetch surmountable amounts when personalized with for example 'GTHO-72' ' XYGT-70' 'XYGT-351'. This is a real man's car built with many options as its feature, which makes for demand of such vehicles. We are talking of course original GT's. A GT lookalike/replica does not fool the discerning eye. Even the slightest detail is not over looked.(eg. original petrol tank and petrol cap, of which are very expensive.) Most don't leave home with cap on in fear of it being stolen. Story goes some guys sleep in car to avoid theft, as a garage has not stopped thieves. Also, the id plates under the hood are removed so that in the event of it being stolen, one cannot obtain authenticity papers from Ford. Many mouths drop when anyone drives this monster down the street, let alone a female. There have been some humourous times when a cop has stopped by me while I was behind the wheel. BUT let a man behind it and guaranteed he will be pulled over and booked for something or other. Pictured here before the motor was pulled out and worked on. Car is still in the works and has been now for 3 years. Shamedly, the engine so far has cost a whopping $8,000 and is far from finished. Oh pardon me, not all money went towards rebuilding motor. Spent a cool $3470 for 9" 3.7 Centre (diff), a neat $1700 for rework on the cleveland heads, specs met to 644 HP, 143 lb intake, 145 lb exhaust. Henceforth, a roll cage was installed (which by the way can devalue the car as it takes away its originality) for safety reasons while racing, and due to the power, it had to be done, another $1500. The fuel filter was a mere $244. Other items have been reworked like the carbie. New pistons, and new suspension system have also added to the bill. The next big spend is on stainless steel brakes which are to be imported from New York, at a cost of $900US. The performance of this car as new, straight out of the factory was capable of 0-100 km/h (61mph) in 6.5 seconds. My car, modified is to do the 0-100 in 4 seconds. The quarter mile also was done in 14.4 seconds as new; modified-8 seconds. The car also reaches speeds of 229km/h (142mph) without modifications. Mine? I have no idea, but I am sure I will take it to its limits! (That would be the needle off the speedo!) UPDATE: I am sad to say, that this car to date is still looking the same way it does below and reluctantly, the day it does see completion, it will be sold. |

Well here is the car, immobolized....oh my poor car. As you can see the exhaust is out to rebuild another I had in stock. One year this car spent on the road,,,and boy did I have fun with it! As you can see there is a Shaker, which, like so many of the XY's mechanical and styling ideas, came directly from America, in this case the 1969/70 Boss 302 Mustang |

Australia's version of the Cobra, but slightly larger than the American one. As you can see its the same as the XA coupe above. This is an XC coupe. No XC's were ever GT's, and only 400 were ever built. These were called the 'Bathurst Specials' which had features such as racing seats, 5.8 litre V8, 4-speed gearbox, hood scoops ( a distinct feature of the GT), and Globe wheels. These wheels back in 1991 cost $250 each through a swap meet. Eight years later, I hate to think what they are worth now. I have mine in safe keeping, as they are hunted down! |
