Families can be together forever,
through Heavenly Father's plan...
The Detroit Michigan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints is just one of 117 temples
around the world that serve as sacred places where people can go to
make eternal promises with God. They are literally Houses of
the Lord and are the same as the temples of old.
There are many various purposes for temples & reasons why we
enjoy going there often. Erica & Mark are going there for the
purpose of being married together for time and for all eternity.
They will be sealed together not just "til death do us part" but for
forever. That's quite an extensive period of time! They
can't wait to spend each & every day together for the rest of forever.
Some vocabulary words that are important to know in understanding
temples are the words, Heavenly Father, eternal family, and sealing.
We call Heavenly Father, our Father, because He is. He is
literally the Father of our spirit. This makes us part of His own
family, as His children. One of the goals of this life then, is to
model our family after His. He is immortal and will live forever,
and thus His family will also last forever. If we are to then
model our family after His, there must be a way that our families can
be together forever–and there is. In the temples of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, eternal families are
created through a special marriage ceremony, called a sealing.
In these temples, which are literally the Lord's houses, couples can
go and be "sealed" together for the rest of eternity. Here they
make promises with the Lord that they will be faithful to Him and their
spouse not just for this life, but for forever. This is quite a long
time! But the love that exists between husband and wife, and
parent and child, is the source of our greatest joys in life, and is
something that really ought to last forever. And it can. :-)
The marriage will be here at the temple & the
reception will be the next day at the Lansing Stake Center.
