What is the Mount Pagan Society?

Some Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MPS?

The MPS is a student society goverened by the Student Union of Mount Saint Vincent University. Societies are run by the students, for the students; to provide community support (and fun!) for the Student Body. To find out more about societies on campus, contact the Student Union in Rosaria Center or visit the Mount Web Site here. The purpose of the MPS is to provide support and information resources to pagan students and to students who are merely interested in learning more.

Who can join the MPS?

Anyone! You don't have to be a Pagan yourself to join. You don't even have to be considering it. All we ask is that you are sensitive and respectful to other people about their beliefs.

What does the MPS do?

Well... what would you like us to do? We are always looking for new ideas for events. Even if you are not a member you can still attend events, so leave your suggestions on the bulletin board, or drop an email to Blue Wave or Petra Sphinx. Some things we might do include:
- Tarot Faire
- Holiday, Ritual, or Magick Workshops
- Charity Fund Raisers
- Discussion Sessions
- Guest Speakers
- And... (insert your idea here :-) )

All upcoming events will be posted on the bulletin board, so keep checking!

What is Paganism?

Wow, you don't ask the easy questions, do you! Well, Pagan comes from the latin word meaning "country dweller". Pagan has a religious connotation because in Europe, during the time when missionaries were trying to convert people to a new faith, the people in the rural areas (the country, that is) were the last to accept conversion. The cities had more people to access, and more easily. The pagans retained their old ways longer than the others. Today's Pagans (or Neo-Pagans) are trying to re-claim these old traditions, not because we think the newer or more mainstream religions are wrong or bad, but because we have feel a calling - an emotional and often inexplicable attachment - to the ways of the past. This dos not mean, however, that we "live in the past". We are very concerned about the future of our planet and our future generations. We work very hard to promote a safe, peaceful, and healthy environment for the people who will one day enherit the Earth.

Is Every Pagan a Witch?

No. There are many traditions within the modern pagan movement. There are Druids, Asatru, Shamans, and Goddess Worshipers, to name a few. Check our bulletin board often to see new postings about various traditions. It is located in Seton Academic Center, 5th floor.

Blessed Be!
