NOVEMBER
“Welcome my friends to the revolution!!” Many times through the history
of modern music there have been musicial upheavals. In the 50’s a new
musical form was born out of rebellion from the norm which became known
as “Rock ‘N’ Roll.” In the 60’s a new movement wea fronted by a then little
known outfit which became known as “The Beatles” with their studio experimentation
they pushed the envelope even further. Like most things in life people
soon tire of the same thing. What was once an “alternative” soon becomes
the accepted norm for all to follow, a blanket of comfort for all to wrap
themselves in, while following th eleader down the path of blandness.
Enter “November,” a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale musical
climate. After finishing an album in Sweden, Paul Marko went back to the
states to form a new band with no pre-conceptions accept to explore new
horizons in heavy rock. After hooking up with drummer Blane Gilbert through
a musual friend, Blane contacted Mike Murray the singer in his classic
rock cover band and Mark Dubose bassist and long time friend from a former
band. Once the lineup was set they started pre-production of their debut
record. With influences from Rainbow to Soundgarden they have come up
with a wildly original style of hard rock, a darkly melodic, ominous sound
unheard of in todays angst ridden , lame music scene. With the rumblings
of the neglected hard rock audience being felt throughout the world it
would seem there is a “New Day Rising”...”Welcome My Friends To the Revolution”!!!

TOWNE CRYER 21
Guitarist Erik Deitz, vocalist Tim Kopp, guitarist Chris Kopp, bassist
Chris Palestro, and drummer Steve Wagner.
Revolutionize (rev-uh-LUU-shun-nlz) verb 1. To change radically or drastically.
2. To bring about a radical change in. Transform, metamorphose. 3. Album
released by Towne Cryer 21 to cause upheaval in the music industry. Thwne
Cryer 21 is about to take on a stagnant music genre filled with three-chord,
alternative, “I hate myself” bands and turn in into what it should be.
Music that makes you feel every part of your body. Melodies, crunch, hooks,
and bottom end; it’s all there in a way that’s never been presented before.
That is essence in what Revolutionize is all about. In addition to keeping
with the theme of political and moral reforms of the late eighteenth century,
they intend to revolutionize the music of this century. Based in New York’s
Hudson Valley, the quintet Towne Cryer 21 are definitely not into following
what the latest trend dictates, but rather playing what comes from their
hearts. Formed in 1990, the band built a strong local following and then
began spreading out farther from home by playing such markets as New York
City, New Jersey, Connecticutt, and Pennsylvania, where they continue
to build their fan base. The nine tracks on Revolutionize blend power
and melody to near perfection, as evidenced on songs such as ‘Days Gone
By,’ ‘Seize The Day,’ ‘Rage,’ and the band’s anthem ‘The Cryer.’ “I think
that what makes us unique is the diverse backgrounds and influences in
the band. We listen to everything from Billy Joel to Metallica, and when
we write we encompass a mixture of all that we love about music. That’s
where our appeal comes from” says Chris Kopp. Not afraid to stretch their
musical abilities, Towne Cryer 21’s material covers bases ranging from
simple, melodic, radio-friendly tracks to more technically driven “muso-oriented”
material. The members of Towne Cryer 21 have their heads on straight.
“In a business as tough as the music business, it’s hard for a band to
gain commercial success while still staying true to what got them there.”
says Tim Kopp. “The music industry as it is right now needs aradical change.
Everything out there has been done and re-done. We want to offer something
new and bring music into the 21st century.” adds Erik Deitz. There is
no doubt that Towne Cryer 21 is in it for the long haul. With a positive
outlook on life and their future, the only other thing a band would need
is strong material. With Towne Cryer 21, that’s not a problem.
ANOTHER SOCIETY
So Sharon Stone has a bondage menage-a-trois with James Hetfield and Page
Hamilton and nine months later she gives birth to a pumpkin-headed love
child. In a big swinging nutshell, that’s the genesis of Another Society,
four fine your gentlemen who hail from what must be the loudest swamp
in Tennessee. And they’d like you to be made aware of this one simple
fact: They rock, and their second album, Blood Wrong, will be out soon.
Okay, so maybe that’s two things. The boys in Another Society aren’t real
big on math. They’re big on rock. That’s just the way they are--real focused-like.
Who’s the President? Who gives a crap. The Pathfinder found a bunch of
rocks on Mars! Big deal. We got plenty damn good rock right here. Today’s
Christmas? The Super Bowl? Secretary’s Day? Looks like just another day
to us. Another day to rock your ass off, that is. So come on over and
fill your bowl witha heapin’ helpin’ of what singer Luke John likes to
call “Chunk Rock” (as in, you know, chunka, chunka, chunka, chunka.....)
Yeah, it’s so thick you’ll be tempted to eat it with a fork, but you’ll
wanna get your face down in there and root around like a hog, to ge every
last drop. Because this is music that melts plastic furniture. That pulls
the wings of fflies and isn’t sorry. It steps on baby chicks. It causes
cancer in laboratory rats, turns frontal lobes into Jell-O, and once exploded
an old lady’s shivering wet poodle. It’s rude and loud, burps in church,
and doesn’t send thank you notes. But don’t get the wrong idea. These
guys have their sensitive side, too. They’re capable of slow, lyrical
songs, perfect for more romantic activities. Like a candlelit bath with
your significcnt other., in a vat of Meisterbrau. Or bong water. The new
album, Blood Wrong is on PC Music, a cute little furry label just down
the street from the koalas in the quaint California metropalis of San
Diego. Soon, it will be annoying neighbors everywhere.
TEN
Vocalist Gary Hughes, lead guitarist Vinny Burns, drummer Greg Morgan,
guitarist John Halliwell, and keyboardist Ged Rylands.
What originally started life as a couple of Gary Hughes albums quickly
evolved into something much bigger with the arrival of former Dare members
Vinny Burns and Greg Morgan. Veteran producer Mike Stone (Journey, Asia,
etc.) was brought in to oversee the mixing of the record and added and
extra special sheen to the project. On its release in Japan the album
received 95/100 in Burrn! magazine. It entered the Japanese hard rock/metal
chards at #3, the international artists chart at #11 and th enational
charts (which has Japanese and foreign artists) at #33. In the UK praise
has included 4Ks in Kerrang!, 9/10 in Frontiers and 10/10 in Hard Roxx.
LIVING SACRIFICE
Vocalist Bruce Fitzhugh, drummer Lance Garvin, guitarist Jason Truby,
and bassist Chris Truby.
Together for over seven years, Little Rock, Arkansas’ Living Sacrifice
has matured into a forceful, well-rounded band, with a new album, Reborn,
that exemplifies the meanings of perserverance and musical growth. “This
is a rebirth of the band, thus the title Reborn,” says vocalist/bassist
Bruce Fitzhugh. After a line-up change that resulted in Fitzhugh taking
over singing duties, the band began heading in a slightly more hardcore
direction than the speedier, nearly grindcore sound of their last record.
“We’re still into that kind of stuff,” says Fitzhugh, “but we already
explored that sound. We didn’t want to repeat ourselves.” Citing the way
in which the band’s listening habits influenced their previous recordings,
the quartet made a conscious decision not to let their influences factor
into their own material this time around. “We didn’t listen to anything
remotely heavy while writing this album,” Fitzhugh explains. “We wanted
it to be more original and not contrived.” Reborn blends aggressive vocals
with emotion-driven rhythms, tribal percussion and hypnotic industrial
loops to create a heavy and unique sound that fuses a path between extreme
metal and hardcore. After recording a demo in 1990, Living Sacrifice caught
the attengion of R.E.X. Music, a small independent label bases in Nashville.
At an average age of 19, the band went into the studio in 1991 with Believer’s
Kurt Bachman at the helm to record their self-titled debut. Their second
album, Nonexistent, was recorded in 1992, and 1994 saw the release of
their third offering, Inhabit, also produced by Bachman and Joey Daub
of Believer. In between records, Living Sacrifice also shows their diversity
by having a track appear on an industrial-influenced remix album entitled
Metamorphosis. Scott Albert of then-labelmates Circle of Dust handled
the remix wizardry. R.E.X.’s demise took all of these titles temporarily
out of print. For those of you who are already familiar with Living Sacrifice’s
work, “approach this album with no preconceptions except that it will
be heavy,” Fitzhugh warns. “The older material doesn’t even compare. This
will destroy it.”
ADRENALINE KICK
Vocalist Mitch Pritchard, guitarist Daz Ryder, Guitarist Dave Cooke,
bassist Nick White, and drummer Mark Welch.
No more messin around, alright? No more wasting our time with limp wet
bands, who’ve played a couple of their dad’s records and tried to approximate
a jingly-jangly 60’s sound through week kneed guitars and floppish melodies.
How long’s it all gonna last anyway? Coupla months? Let’s get back to
some real rock ‘n’ roll, with guitars cranking up to the max and vocals
spat out with venom and attitude! These are vicious times and we need
some vicious music to accompany them. Thus Adrenalin Kick. Well, we could
stop right there, couldn’t we? The name alone invokes angst-ridden, fist-clenched,
teeth-gritted tension that speaks volumes. I mean, you could take an educated
guess at what they’re gonna sound like before I even draw your attention
to the shredding material they’ve already laid down. And when I highlight
the best of this schorchin’ set of songs - ‘Deadpool,’ ‘Chosen Few,’ ‘Burning
Down’ and ‘Innocent Man’ the mist will start to clear, you’ll nod your
head wisely and say, “Yeah, I get the picture. So when can I get to see
‘em live? Gotcha! And yep, for all the ball-breakin’ punk-metal contained
on these mighty demos, live is where Adrenalin Kick really happens. That’s
where Nick White and Mark Welch’s bass and drums shake the foundations
and churn your guts, where Daz Ryder and Dave Cooke’s guitars claw their
way through your sense like a sonic cleaver and where Mick Pritchard’s
roaring vocals finally shatter your bones - just to make sure, like. Live
through that kind of experience and you’ll understand exactly what I’ve
been talking about. Found yourself on a mushy heap on the floor? Then
I’m talking to the wrong people. See, Adrenalin Kick are a demanding bunch.
They’re not knocking out these heavy-duty slabs of pure unadulterated
‘90’s ROCK for nothin’ y’know - they want something back. They want the
kinda commitment they’ve already injected into their boiling veins, ‘cuz
this stuff ain’t goin’ away - it’ll be here tomorrow and it’ll be here
in ten years time. So whether you’re a discerning punter or a true player
with the means and the vision to make things happen, come out and throw
your lot with Adrenalin Kick. When the going gets tough, it’s time to
kick out the jams, muthafukka!!!
