Newcastle Minimum Wage gig

ASH, The Divine Comedy , Space and Travis have spoken out about why they have decided to play a major show in April campaigning for a national minimum wage.
The sold-out concert, aimed at raising awareness, will take place in Newcastle at the Telewest Arena on April 10 from 3pm until 8pm in front of 10,500 fans. It is organised by Unison, Britain's largest union, with support from the TUC, Metro FM and The Mean Fiddler Organisation among others. Ash's drummer Rick McMurray said: "We feel that this is a very worthwhile cause, one that is imperative for the well-being and protection of young and old people alike."
The Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon blasted: "The time for the UK to re-embrace the ethics of welfare and social democracy is long overdue and the right to a basic living wage seems as good a start as any."
Space issued the following statement: "There's thousands of hard-working people who work for next to no money where we come from. It doesn't take much to work out that a national minimum
wage would be a big help to families throughout the country. We hope this gig does something in the way of raising awareness about such an important issue."
Finally, Travis simply declared: "it's about f***ing time there was a living wage."
