My anti-religion psycho-babble Alright, If you haven't already guessed, im not very fond of religion. I mean, i don't care if other people have religious beliefs, thats their choice, but its just not for me. In my opinion, religion is just something used to comfort people and explain things that no one else can explain. I'm taking a course in world religions in school, so i kind of know what im talking about. And if any of this offends you, i'm sorry, don't take it personally. I'm just expressing my opinions here. Well anyways, I already mentioned about how religion is just used to explain things that can't be explained right? i can actually prove this one. Okay, think back to ancient Greek Mythology, with all those gods, like Zeus, and Posiedon, and that guy who pulled the sun around on a chariot. Or was the chariot just the sun? ah, i can't remember, thats besides the point. Okay, well the greeks said that Zeus threw lighting around, and thats why there was lighting. Pretty simple explanation, but wheres the logic in that? now we know its all those clouds and electrons and crap. And another example, in ancient egypt how the egyptians believed that the gods controlled the flooding of the nile, so if they had a crappy flood, the gods were pissed off. Okay, now you know that they're just flat out wrong, right? Well, what if someday the origin of life and all that sort of stuff is discovered? then WE look like idiots for believing all this "God" crap, like the bible and stuff. And another thing that bugs me, is the other day on a school trip i went to a buddhist temple. Now if you don't know, buddhists don't worship buddha, he's not a god, but just a great teacher. Well i was thinking, if this guys not a god, and they're not worshipping him, why do they have five twenty foot statues of him that look like they're made of gold? how do you explain that one?? or why are there thousands of small carvings of buddha all over the wall? okay, there could be some other reason, but i don't know it. Okay, another thing that bugs me about religion is this whole concept of an afterlife. In my opinion, we're born, we live, we die. The End. But noooo, people can't accept that. people think that if we just live and then die, whats the point of living? the answer? well every religion i've ever heard of says that when you die, your spirit, or soul, or whatever the hell you want to call it, goes on to some greater place, like heaven with god and everything is great. Or in other religions like hinduism your atman, or spirit, is reincarnated into another body, based on your karma. But when your karma is good enough you go on to some greater place, union with the great god of everything, brahman. People just need some concept of the afterlife to comfort them, and make them feel safe. Its a bunch of crap to me. another thing about religion, is it causes tons and tons of wars!! whats the main cause of war usually? religious differences! look at the crusades! and the holocaust! and all that crap going on in the middle east! the main cause of all of them is that people don't agree on some stupid principle that doesn't even matter, or some great god told two different people that some land belonged to them. Theres probably other stuff i hate about religion, but i can't think of it right now. But again, if this stuff offended you, then why the hell did you read it? lol, just kiddin, but if it did offend u, sorry n all that, its not meant as an attack against someones personal beliefs, im just voicing my opinion on how i hate relgion.
