David Kilgour/Jan Hellriegel
At The Gluepot

[This review has been heavily corrected]

Jan Hellriegel performed a set of her more acoustic songs; this was a 'fun' prelude to her more serious work and tour with David Byrne. Jan, along with guitarists from her usual band, Mark Bell and Mark Peterson, gave us an impression that the new Jan Hellriegel, if there was to be such a description, was of a more subdued, definitely 'ex-wrestle' kind.

Not completely the case, Jan tells me she has quite a range of sets to choose from and these more easy listening and tuneful songs were (all but one of them) from the 'acoustic funset'. Jan's semi-gothic and admirable conviction was amazing as usual and included a splendid rendition of the title track of her new album, It's My Sin. Undeniably talented and fervently styled works are getting to be the hallmarks that one can expect from this musician. It's My Sin will be released in the second week of June.

Those of you lucky enough to have attended the David Byrne concert would have been treated to some of Jan's harder edged songs, and with her usual backing band and full-on vocals it was an impressive and rocking support act. Nice work if you can gt it and Jan Hellriegel certainly can.
