so you're bored, eh?

Here's some ramblings about me, updated every so often.
last update: 7/17/99

Hey! Another little update ... just got back from the ESPN XGames in San Francisco, California last month, and it was phenomenal!!! Both the event and the city! Look here for a ton of pictures. It was a real city, people bustling about, people wanting to come to this place to see what's there ... made me have hope that my city could maybe be something like that with a little effort. Not likely, but it's a thought.

It was really awesome to see bike stunt rider Dave Mirra. He always places high on the competitive charts, and he does good, but seeing him ride live was like ... wow. He really is that good!!

We were at some of the skateboard events too. I love skateboarding. Here's a pic of me with one of my favorite guys, Andy MacDonald (taken last year in Buffalo).

Every time I see him, he's out there giving it his all, these XGames no exception. As much as I like Bucky and Tony too, Andy should've won. The crowd certainly thought so, booing loudly when his score was announced, just shy of Bucky's. Another favorite, Bob Burnquist, was there too, getting lots of cheers from the crowd. All in all, it was a great time, and I can't wait 'til next year!!

If anyone in SF knows a redheaded guy named Jared who moved there around March from Philadelphia, I'm looking for him to say hey (really sweet guy, walked me to my hotel when it was dark out & I was by myself. Awww :)).

Just won another pair of tickets for this year's Warped Tour ... ifst's the third year in a row that the mallternative station has picked up the bill for me. Two years ago I got to meet skater Mike Frazier, who was super nice. Unfortunately, it poured that year and they couldn't skate, and I didn't see him on the ramp at all last year, so hopefully this year he'll get to skate (did see him in SF though!).

Also saw Neal Hendrix last year, who has to get my vote for one of the most awesome skaters: he was trying all kinds of stunts, and falling hard a lot, but he always got back up and tried again. That rocks.

Outside of skating and bmx bike stunt, my tv time is devoted to drooling over David Hyde Pierce on Frasier, wishing Melrose Place was back on the air, and never missing Friends, Ally McBeal, Jesse, and Seinfeld.

Back here in the real world, I have a real job, working for the county as an Assistant Information Systems Specialist, which means when something computer-related breaks or needs something, guess who has to fix it? It's alright work, but I don't feel like I'm using my education, per se. I got my BS in Computer Information Systems in May '98, which let me take a lot of database classes, programming, some unix stuff, and used beloved Microsoft products! (Let me tell ya, I used to be anti-MS, saying what about the competition? But since I've been here, using all non-MS things, it's quickly changed my mind!). So that part of it all is very disappointing.

I get a lot of those 'aren't you kind of young to be doing this?' comments from the older folks at work. Even when I tell them I'm 23, they still give me a doubtful look. Of course then they go on the bottom of the priority list, should they have another problem ;).

Add to that that I don't get to do any of my favorite thing - web page work! Oh sure, sometimes I scan a graphic for the page, but no coding, no design, no content written. Sigh. But I still have my own sites for that. These include: The top 5 are the only ones I still work on (and slush, if anything new ever happens, even though they broke up).

Like most people, I'm also into a lot of music. Mostly punk and skacore stuff, '80's new wave, and some pop. Favorites include: Everclear, Mexican Cession, Backstreet Boys, Less Than Jake, Suicide Machines, Dropkick Murphys, What's Up Chuck?, Goldfinger, Ron Hawkins, Slush Fund, Descendents, Reel Big Fish, Matchbox 20, Rancid, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Weston, MxPx ... you get the idea.

Last year, I had the honor of meeting one of my favorite
singer/songwriter/guitarists, Art Alexakis of Everclear! He was incredible: nice, personable, sweet ... Hundreds of fans stop this guy at every show, and he seems to make time for all of us, signing stuff and posing for pix. He's a remarkable man; 'that's my boy!' ;)
