Ugly Truth
Name:Ugly Truth.. real name Denise Pantlin
Email:the_ugly_truth@hotmail.com
Website: I'm WAY too busy to have one!
Age:Born November 19, 1980. WAY too late in the year.
ICQ: 11228868
Location:Toronto, Ontario, Canada. And NO, I do NOT live in an igloo *grins*
Occupation:I go to school and poison my mind with the crap they feed me. Oh yeah,
I also work in a library, basically sitting on my ass and getting paid for it :Þ
SG discovery story:I first saw Jesus Christ Pose on the T.V, and thought "what a kickass
song" but never went out and bought anything by them. I pretty much didn't give
them a second thought after that, even when my brother bought Badmotorfinger. I
later heard Spoonman on the radio and liked it, and connected it with Jesus
Christ Pose. I liked what I had heard so I went and bought Superunknown and
Badmotorfinger for myself. I put them in and sat on my bed and was BLOWN AWAY. I
had never heard anything so wonderful. . .and my interest grew......
Favourite Album/songs:How can I choose? I guess it matters what kind of a mood I'm in, but
Jesus Christ Pose has always been THE favourite with me. I like songs that are
heavy and fast because I like the adrenalin rush that they give me, but Jesus
Christ Pose also had some melody to it. . .I also like their version of Into The
Void. I like anything that makes me feel, or makes me want to smash something,
and that's Soundgarden in a nutshell. Soundgarden pretty much IS my favourite
kind of music there's nothing else that even comes close. I'd have to say that
Louder Than Love, Badmotorfinger or Superunknown are my favourite albums, but I
couldn't tell you which one becuase they're all good for different moods. I can
say that I was dissappointed with Down on the Upside, but I haven't listened to
that since it came out, so maybe my tastes have changed since then.
Live Experiences:Oh god. I could type forever and the words could never even come
close to describing how great it was to see Soundgarden live. The first time was
Lollapalloza '96. There had been a pretty good lineup, what with the Ramones and
all, and I was just itching to hear Soundgarden. They took the stage and played
a decent set, while I just went nuts :o) The better one was when they came here
again alone to Varsity Arena. Now THAT was a concert! You could feel the energy
and smell the excitement coming off of the crowd. That alone would have been
enough to kill me. It was building up intensely before Soundgarden came on, and
when they started playing it was just an explosion of all the tension that had
been building up all night. It was honestly one of the best shows I've ever been
to in my life, and that's saying a lot. We had bought some after show passes
off of a couple of scalpers, but Soundgarden cancelled it because they were too
tired. We went back to look around and ran into Kim, who seemed really agitated. We had a friend waiting outside
about 3 feet away from Kim, who only had to open a door to shake his hand, but
Kim refused, so it was kind of a bad experience with him, but the
show.....amazing.
Other bands you like: Nirvana, Mudhoney, Melvins, some Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog, NIN,
Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Smashing Pumpkin's OLD stuff(mostly the slow
stuff), I Mother Earth's instrumentals(not the singing...yuck!), Sonic Youth,
L7, Radiohead. A lot of bands have a few songs I like, but I don't like them in
general because I'm just to damned picky! I've got to be able to hear the
passion in the music for me to be able to really get into it.
Any Comments?:Don't let anyone tell you you're not a real fan because you don't
have every album ever touched in some way by them. If you are passionate about
the music and it invokes something in you that you don't otherwise feel, you're
a fan. You're experiencing the beauty of the music, and don't let anyone tell
you otherwise.
