“Heidi, can’t you go any faster?” her little brother Rupert whined.

“Not unless you want to pay for the speeding ticket I’m going to get if I do”, she responded through clenched teeth.

He kicked the back of her seat.

“Rupert, stop it!” she commanded.

He kicked it again.

“Stop, you freak!” She reached back in an attempt to get him to stop. He kicked her hand. I laughed. She turned around and smacked his leg. “Stop it!” she cried.

“Heidi?” Lucy interrupted calmly. “Can I drive?”

This earned her a strange look from Heidi, who replied, “No, you’re too young.”

“Then WHY DON’T YOU??!!!! “ she screamed, losing her cool.

Heidi swerved back just in time to miss a telephone pole. Everyone screamed. (‘Everyone’ includes us three mentioned, my younger bros and sis Ricky, Devon, and Marlena; Lucy’s little bro and sis Alex and Stefani, and Heidi’s little sibs Marcus and Marissa. Our sibs were all crammed in the back, with strict orders from Heidi to stay down so no cops would see them and arrest us.)

“You gonna watch the road now, Heidi darling”, I asked sarcastically, “or will we have to watch it for you?”

“Shutup”, was Heidi’s immediate response.

“Watch the road and we will”, Lucy insisted.

“I am watching the road!” she cried.

“Try doing that more often”, Ricky retorted.

“Anything for you, my darling”, Heidi returned with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Ricky simply smiled. “I know.”

We pulled in to the parking lot of the city park. Heidi carefully parked the car in a space next to a totally awesome Saab. We all bounced out of the car and Heidi opened the trunk. We all took our rollerblades out and put them on. Then Heidi, Lucy, and I headed to where some of our really cool guy friends were supposed to be playing roller hockey. But once the hockey blacktop came into sight, I stopped in my tracks. Something was different. Something was very wrong. There were several preppy girls in the rink, screaming every time the puck came within six feet of them. There was... there was... Oh, my gosh, I thought, amazed. Oh, my gosh!

“Lin, what is your problem?” Heidi called.

“Yeah, Lin, you comin’?” Lucy inquired.

“Uh, umm...” I stammered. “You guys, take a close look at the hockey rink up there.”

Both turned and squinted up the incline. They looked so funny, I had to hold my breath to keep from laughing. And they both looked back at me the exact same time. I almost couldn’t hold it in that time.

“Yeah, there’s a bunch of those wussie girls up there pretending they can play hockey”, Heidi said.

“They’re not very good actresses”, Lucy commented laughingly.

“Probably flirting with our darlin’ little male friends up there”, Heidi continued.

I raised my eyebrows. “Look again”, I instructed them. “ They’re flirting all right, but it isn’t with anyone we know personally!”

They both turned again, and again, I could barely contain my laughter. Then they both gasped. And I laughed so hard I thought I was going to faint.

“There’s Isaac!” Heidi shrieked.

“And there’s Zac!” Lucy squealed.

They looked at each other and then said, “And there’s Taylor!” They both looked at each other again. “Wait a minute...” they said in unison.

“I know”, I said, after I managed to stop laughing (for the most part).
