Mid Youth Crisis are from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

They are a damn fine punk rock band.  Personally I see influences of early Stiff Little Fingers. I stress the personally bit there.  But ultimately, I think that they hold it easily with some of the best bands that are around in the world today.

Originally known as Downfall, Mid Youth Crisis (hereon refered to as M.Y.C.) formed in 1993, and originally consisted of:

Steve (vocals)
Dave (bass),
Heath (guitar),
Adrian (guitar); and
Jay (drums)

Steve had previously been in Steadfast, and Jay had previously been in Providence (drums).

Under the name Downfall, they released two demo tapes containing four songs.  The second being recorded in April 1994.

Due to the fact that there was already another band in existence with the name Downfall, they decided to change the name to One Inch Punch (the Bruce Lee punch thing).

One Inch Punch toured quite a bit, often traveling up to Sydney and over to Adelaide.  One of the tours they went on was as the support for Lagwagon.  This tour went all the way up to Brisbane and was lots of fun.

They also very nearly decided to go on tour with the Sex Pistols (after being offered the opening slot) but decided not to.

In December 1996, guitarist Heath left the band (due to personal reasons) and was eventually replaced by Trent in March 1997, who had moved to Adelaide to play drums for Price of Silence.  (While in Adelaide, he also drummed in Buelah's Fix and the excellent Unit 1174).  Trent was an old buddy, having previously played drums in Steadfast with Steve.  Having picked up guitar and becoming quite good at it, he returned to Melbourne and, well, commenced playing guitar in M.Y.C.

The release of the Romeo and Juliet movie and soundtrack in 1997 saw One Inch Punch turning up to gigs to find themselves listed outside the pub as "One Inch Punch - from Romeo and Juliet" .  As it was rather annoying, they decided to once again look for a new name.

A new song at that time was Mid Youth Crisis, and that was the name they adopted.  Of course, it is also annoying that the European techno guy known as One Inch Punch has not done anything since then!

Anyway, after recording the "Happiness and Authority" CD, Trent left the band in November 1997 and was replaced by Beltsy, who had filled the gap between Heath and Trent (Dec 96 - Mar 97).  Beltsy is a very talented guitarist, and obviously a really cool dude!.  He also happens to be in Melbourne band Mindsnare.

Oh, by the way, somewhere in there, Jay started drumming for Heads Kicked Off.

In March of 1998, M.Y.C. jetted off (without me!) to kick some European butt.  They played shows in Germany, Holland, Belgium and somewhere else with German band The Daisies, as well as playing their own headline shows.

The tour was a success, and they had hoped to return in the not too distant future, but of course they have now broken up, having played their final gig to a jam packed Corner Hotel in Richmond on Sat 14th November, 1998.
