The night was windy and Joselyn was finding it hard to keep her balance. Even if she was just standing still, on the Hanson’s front porch...
“Why did you make me wear these platform shoes for?” she hissed at Amanda.
Amanda smiled half heartedly.
“They make you look taller,” she explained “...and skinnier” She added, looking Joselyn up and down.
Joselyn scowled at her back when Amanda turned to check if her bum looked okay. Amanda stood up straight once more and issued an order.
“Ring the bell again, Joselyn”
Reluctantly, she stepped forward, reaching out to press the button. But not before the door opened at the exact same time...
Taylor stood in the open doorway and proved to be the only thing to grab onto for support in Joselyn’s eyes, as she began to topple over clumsily - smacking Taylor front on, and bringing him to the ground.
“Ooff!”
Taylor fell flat on his back onto the floor boards in the hall, with Joselyn coming down heavily on top of him.
Amanda stood in the doorway in a state of shock, amusement and envy. Why couldn’t she have fallen on Taylor? At least she wouldn’t’ve completely crushed his rib cage including various vital organs...
“Get her off!” Amanda heard Taylor cry.
It was loud enough to send Isaac running in from the other room.
“Heeeeeeelllpp!!!” Taylor yelled again. “I can’t breathe!” he choked.
Isaac stood studying the situation and finally spoke ...
“What the hell are you doing, Joselyn?” he asked.
But then he spotted the platform shoes, and went to help her up.
“Ow...” Taylor complained as Joselyn kneed him in the process of getting up.
Joselyn stood up shakily and shook herself off. Taylor groaned in pain and rolled over onto his side.
“My poor, weak little body ...”
Isaac laughed at him.
Someone cleared their throat in search of attention. Isaac turned to see Amanda standing in the doorway.
“Oh, hi Amanda,” Isaac said.
Ignoring the greeting, Amanda attempted to strike a glamourous pose, thrusting one arm into air, -the other hanging to her side, whilst sticking one side of her hip out.
“..Um.. nice dress...?” was Isaac’s unsure response.
Amanda smiled weakly in embarrassment.
“ ... uh, yeah, the dress is nice .... yeah ..”
Isaac frowned in bewilderment.
“Well, come on in. We’re just waiting for Mum, she’s getting Mackie ready,” he offered.
“Oh, alright ... thankyou” Amanda replied.
She followed him inside the house, giving Joselyn an insulting shove with her shoulder as she passed her.
“Ooo!” Joselyn reacted, stumbling backwards, but somehow amazingly not losing her balance, “What was that for?”
“That’s for almost putting Taylor Hanson on his death-bed,” Amanda answered coldly.
Joselyn sniffed in both pain and resentment, and reluctantly followed her into the Hanson’s living room.
The couch was cluttered with various babie toys, magazines, barbies and clothes - all coming from living in a household of kids. Amanda and Joselyn seated themselves somewhere within the mess.
“Oh, they’re mine, sorry ... he he” Isaac said, snatching away a pair of red undies from the couch as Joselyn noticed them.
“Uh, yeah” she replied, trying to submerg a giggle.
Isaac nodded, blushing, and left the room to put away his underwear. Once he had gone, the 2 girls were left alone. Taylor had stumbled off after his little trauma to get his shoes on, Zac had yet to make an appearance, the rest of the family seemed busy with organising themselves and Isaac, who had been their ‘host’ so far had left them all by themselves in a strange and unfamiliar house.
“What did you bring that for?” Joselyn asked, as she noticed Amanda pulling out a camera from her bag.
Amanda ignored her.
“Oh, to take pictures of stars at the Awards?” she suggested.
“Noooo ...” Amanda said mysteriously.
Joselyn watched in horror as her friend started to snap pictures of their surroundings.
“What do you think your doing???” she hissed in a loud whisper.
Amanda stopped and turned to her.
“What do you THINK I’m doing? Think about it, Jos, we could make stacks of money by selling these,” she said, waving the camera around in the air.
“That’s terrible, Amanda! You can’t DO that!” Joselyn answered in a fluster.
“Watch me”
“AMANDA!”
“Look, how many people do you think would want to see the Hanson’s iving room? I mean look around you, we are sitting on the couch Hanson sit on, there’s the TV Hanson watch...” Amanda excalimed pointing at the TV.
“God, Amanda, what’s gonna happen if someone catches you? Huh? They’ll think you’re some kinda pervert ... which isn’t ENTIRELY untrue ...”
Amanda shrugged.
“I’ll just tell ‘em it was your idea” she said simply.
“Oh gee, thanks,” Joselyn said, sarcasm dripping from her every word.
“Hmm... too bad Isaac took his knickers before I had a chance to ...” Amanda started but was interupted by a voice in the doorway.
“Excuse me?”
Shocked, she looked up abruptly, hiding her camera. Speak of the Devil. It was Isaac, returning from his little journey. Amanda, her mouth hanging open in surprise, tried to mutter a deffense, but Isaac wasn’t even midly convinced.
“No, really. Just what exactly WERE you planning on doing with my undies? I’m curious,” He told her seriously.
Oh my God, he’s actually genuinely interested. What a freak ...
“Uh, well you see ...” Amanda said, regaining her composture, “I was about to comment on how rather stylish they were. Yes, yes I was. Perhaps even sexy ...”
Isaac looked interested yet amused. Amanda continued.
“Yeah, but I couldn’tve said that after I knew they were yours”
“Oh ... thanks a lot” Isaac said, offended.
“Oh, I didn’t mean it like that! Really. I’m not that kind of person ....” she defended, flashing him a smile.
He was silent.
“OK, EVERYBODY OUT TO THE CAR!” came an order.
“Oh, that’s my dad,” Isaac explained, “I geuss we’re leaving”
Amanda and Joselyn nodded in union and rose from the couch, following Isaac through the house to the door. As they passed the kitchen, Amanda whispered to Josleyn.
“Look, there’s the fridge they ...”
“I don’t wanna hear it!” Josleyn replied, annoyed.
Amanda giggled smugly.
“Ok, but when I’m living in my new beach house in California, I promise I’ll send you a postcard ...”
Josleyn pulled a sarcastic grin.
“You’re full of it, Amanda”
“Oh, but it gets me places! Welcome to the real world, Joselyn Bates.”
And she spunned around and walked out the door, thanking one of the Hanson’s younger sisters for holding the it open for her. Josleyn followed her, sulkingly.
The wind had not dropped and Joselyn had not changed her shoes.
“Oh God! What am I going to do?” she thought aloud.
“Joselyn!”
Zac, who was already waiting outside, came running over to greet her.
“Hey!” he said “Where have you been hiding? I didn’t even know you were here.”
“Oh, I’ve been inside with Amanda, didn’t Isaac tell you?”
“Nope”
Joselyn grasped onto the side of the house as a gust of wind blew up.
“Need some help?” Zac offered.
“Oh God, yes! I’m gonna break my ankles on these things”
Zac helped Joselyn over to the van, almost falling over many times in the process.
“There’s not enough room in the van for all of us” announced Mrs Hanson.
“Then, what are we going to do?” Isaac asked.
Zac had the solution.
“Oh, don’t worry,” he said “Me and Amanda can walk. I’ll go get the leash ...”
“Zaaacc...”
He smiled adoringly.
“Only a suggestion” Zac said, turning to Amanda and scrunching up his face in disgust.
Finally, it was decided that Isaac would go next door and ask their friendly neighbours if they could borrow their car for a very important ocasion. The family + Amanda and Joselyn were split up amoungst the two cars, and eventually they all made it to the Awards in one piece.
Now, all that was left was to make it inside - without being mobbed.
“Ok, here goes ...” Zac said, opening the door of the car he was in.
They were greeted by screams, but also the look of surprise that a 6th Spice Girl had turned up with the Hanson’s ...
