Part 6 ... Strange but Sweet

“I can’t beleive you did that!”

“What?” Amanda answered innocently.

Zac sighed and turned away.

Amanda and Zac were standing in the hallway outside the women’s toilet block in the building of the music awards.

“Oh come off it, Amanda!” he said, annoyed, “You just HAD to, didn’t you? ANYTHING to get the spotlight on you.”

“Uh!” Amanda answered, “It wasn’t my fault she lacks co-ordination...”

“Very funny” Zac said sarcastically.

“It wasn’t meant to be funny,” Amanda said, in a sulk.

Zac sighed and cupped his hands over his mouth.

“God, .... look Amanda, aren’t you even going to go in there and see how she is?” he questioned.

Amanda’s response was careless.

“No.”

“What? After all this, you’re not even concerned as to how Joselyn might be feeling at this point?” Zac said.

“She’s a big girl, she can look after herself...” Amanda said simply.

Any patience Zac may have posessed had now escaped from him.

“Well, if you’re not going in there,” he said, gesturing towards the womens toilet door, “I will.”

Amanda grabbed Zac as he started to move towards the door, in desperation she clung to his jacket - trying to prevent him from entering the womens toilets.

“Let go, Amanda!” he ordered in his struggle.

“You can’t go in there!” she cried hysterically, “That’s the WOMENs!”

“Oh, really?” Zac humoured her, “Gee, thanks for pointing that out, Amanda. I thought Joselyn wouldn’ve gone into the men’s. NOW, GET OFF ME!”

Much to Amanda’s horror, her fingers slipped, unleasing him from her grip. She watched in shock as Zac burst into the women’s toilets. To her surprise, she heard no shreiks coming from inside, that might have been due to the fact that Zac couldv’e passed for a girl.

Amanda stood shakily outside the toilets, running her hands through her hair in distress. Here she was, standing by herself because Zac had gone into the women’s toilets to comfort Joselyn, who, in Amanda’s opinion, was totally overreating.
So what if she’d slightly knocked Joselyn, just when the cameras were on them while they were being shown their seats? Phff!
So what if she’d gone crashing to the ground, just as she did at the Hanson house earlier that night, and been laughed at by practically the entire audience, not to mention it all been captured on LIVE, national TV?
So what if it was her that demanded Joselyn wear the platforms in the first place?
At least Amanda herself, benefited from all this. Everyone thought the first Hanson date was hilarious, and was looking to the next one for some more ‘pre-show’ entertainment. Of course, she had wowed the crowd with her incredible beauty, style, elegance and wonderful dress. Or so she had thought...
Amanda heard a soft whimpering from inside the toilets. Joselyn must be crying. So what? It wasn’t THAT bad...

Meanwhile, Zac, who to him it was a new experience to be in a women’s toilet lot, was trying to figure out just which cubicle Joselyn had retreated to. Three were closed.
After a moment of thinking, he decided to check under the doors for shoes ...
Crouching down and craning his neck to get down low enough, he observed the first cubicle’s set of shoes. Pointy, a bit of lace and very narrowish tight.
Definitely not Joselyn.
He moved onto the second cubicle. After a quick look at these shoes, he frowned and looked closer, then suddenly he shot to his feet, confused and disgusted. The shoes, cowboy boots, had been facing the wrong way, and Zac wondered if this bloke had also managed to slip into the wrong toilet block.
Shuddering, he moved to the next cubicle, which was obviously the one Josleyn was in. He knocked softly.

“Go away” was the meek response.

“Joselyn,” Zac said in a high voice, in order to not be recognised as a boy, “It’s me”

“Who?” she said confused.

Zac stopped and searched for a way out of this one.

“Um... my name starts with Z,” he said hopefully.

“ZAC!” Joselyn shreiked, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE?”

“Shh!” Zac said in his normal voice.

A voice behind him startled him.

“Excuse me, young man, what exactly do you think you’re doing?” a woman with pointy, tight shoes asked accusingly.

Joselyn opened the door to her cubicle and stood amoung them.

“He’s with me” she said.

The woman took one look at her and burst out laughing. Pointing and laughing hysterically, she left the toilets in a fit, forgetting all about Zac.

Zac turned to Joselyn, placing his hands on her shoulders.

“Are you okay?” he asked gently.

“Yeah, I geuss so...” she sniffed.

“Hey, don’t worry about it,” he said, “Plenty of people fall over on those things”

She looked down, sadly. Noticing something for the first time, Zac frowned.

“Where are they anyway?” he asked.

Joselyn pointed to the corner.

“In the bin”

“Whose are they?” Zac questioned, with a mischeivious grin spreading onto his face.

“Amanda’s. Do you really think I would actually own something like that?” she giggled.

“No,” he smiled, “So... if they’re not yours, we can just leave them there, right?”

“Yeah, I suppose so. But I don’t have anything else to wear on my feet.”

“Who’s gonna care? And who’s gonna notice?”

Joselyn laughed, and nodded in understanding.

Zac looked at her and smiled. He leaned forward and gently kissed her on her forehead.

“See? Everything’s okay” he said softly.

She looked up at him and shook her head.

“You’re a strange man, Zac Hanson,” she laughed.

“Man? Wow...” he exclaimed happilly, as they headed out the door, hand in hand, Joselyn smiling - ready to face the public.

As they came out of the women’s toilets, they received numourous weird looks from people passing by. This started Zac thinking.

“Hey...” he said to Joselyn, “You don’t think that it’s possible for the media find out about this, do ya? ... I mean, there’s not gonna be any big headlines in newspapers reading: ‘Zac Hanson seen exiting a women’s toilet lot’ is there?

“It’s possible,” Joselyn replied.

“God, I hope not...” he sighed.

“Don’t go all big-headed on me now,” Joselyn warned, “You’ll turn into Amanda ...”

“ARGH!” Zac groaned in mock-horror, pulling a face.

“What about me?” A voice chirped.

The two spun around.

“Hello, Amanda” Joselyn said quietly.

“Joselyn,” Amanda regarded her, “Zac,” she nodded.

Suddenly she frowned in confusion.

“Wait, where are my shoes, Joselyn?” she asked.

“We ditched them, they started to smell after the dog drool you dripped on them dried.” Zac explained.

“I didn’t ASK you!” Amanda snapped.

Smiling bitterly, she turned to Joselyn.

“Where .. are .. my .. shoes ..?” she said, through gritted teeth.

“Didn’t you hear what Zac said? They’re in the bin in the toilets, no wait, they’re IN the toilets! Yeah, we flushed ‘em, yeah, that’s exactly what we did...”

“Oh, you’re too convincing, Joselyn,” she said, sourly.

“Oh, go to hell, Amanda!” Joselyn shouted at her, “Maybe you’ll even find your stupid shoes THERE!”

At this point, Zac burst out laughing in amazement. He continued to laugh as he was dragged away by a fuming Joselyn, leaving Amanda to go find her all-too-precious shoes
