I burned toast and the apartment is le stink. Last night, at The Drake Hotel (very cool and hip and swanky), some Harris folks in RIO B put on a show. It was pretty fun. Amanda showed up with her friends (who looked way too cool for us), Courtney with her girlfriend, and Stacey with a bunch of her friends (who ditched her later because she wasn't paying much attention to them). We didn't drink absinthe as planned, because they didn't serve it in the bar downstairs and the four of us weren't all there at the same time.
Highlight of the night: Tony Giorno (RIO A), possibly the most annoying student in RIO, is talking to me. I am being polite and receptive to his conversation. Dooner's girlfriend (Dooner is another guy in RIO A), a total airhead waif, approaches and sees Tony talking to a girl who is smiling and assumes he is picking her up. She decides to help him by inserting herself into our conversation and says: "Tony organized this WHOLE show! Isn't that amazing? He did all the promotion and everything!" (Meanwhile I am trying not to have one of those what-the-hell-are-you-on looks on my face because I know who put on the show, and at this time I did not know who this crazy girl was.) Tony is concealing mild panic and kind of pulls her aside to tell her "Hehe, uh..she goes to Harris.." She probably decides that I wouldn't know who organized it anyway and continues raving, and asks "What do you think of his contribution to this whole show?" I'm a very bad actor so my "It's great!" was probably really fake sounding. She says "You think so? (winks and gives Tony the thumbs up) "Which part of it in particular?" "In being a fan of the music." "Just a fan??" Anyway it was very weird and I have no idea what this Tony guy is telling people. He also tells people he's a drug dealer. I think if he was a drug dealer he'd be dead by now. I really didn't want to embarrass anyone. I tried, okay. Then waif girl and I talked about flutes for a few minutes. She told me she thinks musicians are the smartest people in the world.
Okay, I've got a paper to write.
