Bernard Butler '97

British songwriter Bernard Butler, born May 1st 1970, is known as the "Best British Guitarist Of The 90's". He joined a band called Suede in 1989 who released their No. 1 debut album in 1993, the year Bernard's father died of cancer. In summer 1994 he left Suede during the recording of the band's second album "Dog Man Star" and teamed up for a number of projects with artists such as Edwyn Collins and Spark. 1995 saw Bernard teaming up with David McAlmont, known as "McAlmont & Butler", and a Top Ten hit called "Yes" plus an album of minor success, after the songwriting partnership had already parted company before the album's release. Then Bernard contributed the guitar parts to Neneh Cherry's international hit single "Woman", made his way onto the records of Aimee Mann and Booth & The Bad Angel, ending up as an one-week member of The Verve. After that he decided to do his first solo album with him doing the vocals. The first single "Stay" and the album "People Move On" did well and gave proof that Bernard actually can sing. He has co-written a song with The Pretenders, which should have been but didn't make it to the band's latest album (but surely will get released), and most recently released his 2nd solo album "Friends & Lovers" and the single "You Must Go On" ...
