He's known
as the guy with a golden voice...
He was
born on 30th June 1972 in Lisse, The Netherlands, a small town some 30
kms away from Amsterdam. He showed his musical talent as a child
already. He took piano-lessons which wasn't enough for him. He also started
playing a guitar. He says : "Music is my life. I knew right away, that
I'll be a singer." At twelve he established his first group 'Education'.
Not only that he played instruments and sang, he also wrote songs. He competed
on a competition for school bands, with a group 'Out of Bounds' in 1987.
It was important for him that he did fairly well, and what was even more
important was that he met Eloy de Jong.
Bastiaan
said that his role model has always been (and always will be) Elvis Presley.
I know all his songs by my heart, I've read some fifty books about his
life. Thus we can say that literature is Bastiaan's second love. I have
almost three hundred books. I'm interested in everything, from ancient
Greek literature (Homer) to biographies and psychological dramas. My desire
for knowledge is enormous.
After secondary
school he continued his education on Lyceum in Amsterdam, where he met
Benjamin Boyce. Bastiaan passed his leaving examination with the highest
grades. He majored in music, geography and history. After that he started
realizing his dreams - to become a singer. He travelled the world with
the american show-group 'Up with People' (in which he was a leading singer).
However Bastiaan wanted more. To 'train' his voice he enrolled the Acting
School in Amsterdam. He got a main role in the musical 'Jeans', with which
he travelled all around the Netherlands. Finally, he established a new
boy-group Caught in the Act, together with Eloy and Benjamin. He said :
"Nothing's more important to me than have friends, that are like my family.
Friends, that have the same goals in life as I do. Friendship gives us
strength."
