After shutting up shop for more than six months, local lads Loudmouth came screaming back with two gigs in one day. Fast, furious and ferocious, this Loudmouth has a heap to say and a hell of a way of saying it.
These speedsters are at once an awesome aural assault, blitzing through savage hardcore sounds, but they can pull out a punk pop tune that will have you humming for days. Have a listen to Tear My Hair Out (from their Brenda O'Connor EP) and you'll be hooked. Other highlights are the originals VB or Me? and Fear, and covers Rollercoaster and Double Decker Bus.
Frontman Mick is a ball of angry energy (reminds me a bit of Rollins), who has to scream above one very loud guitar. The standout is the rhythm section, highlighted by drummer Dave - the best stickman I've seen in this town since Maxy War of Horsehead. Try even tapping your foot in time - you won't be able to keep up.
The other highlights at the Evelyn Hotel gig were the two young slammers up the front who yelled 'Satan' at the end of each song and who spat beer at the bass player. At the end of the set, Mick threw down his mike and leapt on top of them - nearly scaring them to death. It was this unpredictable edge that made these two gigs a treat. This is a very good band.
