At the last minute we decided to try for tickets for the Saturday Jones Beach concert. Three weeks since the last concert and we were having withdrawal!! So a call to ticketmaster showed that tickets were available in the orchestra section E. And we grabbed them! We'd never been to Long Island and furthermore we had to leave at 11:30 pm because of our daughters having to march in the band for the foootball game! We got to Long Island at 3 am! Saturday morning! Checked out the area, found where the theater is...what a beautiful setting (read the other review of Jones Beach for a great description of how beautiful it is). We thought we'd try to upgrade, but found out that we had really good seats, as the closer orchestra seats were not elevated. We had the aisle seats in the center.
Usual format..Admiral Twin at 7:30..Sour note: the Lady behind my daughter got angry because she and her friend were standing UP!! C'mon we just got their CD in the mail on Friday! She informed them that they WEREN'T going to be standing for Hanson! Obviously her first Hanson concert..she didn't know the RULES! However she was not a problem during the concert.
Hanson came on at 8:00 to "Gimme Some Lovin/Shake Your Tailfeathers". I can never remember the order of songs, they change it every time. The new song added at this show was "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf. Sounded great! What they wore: Isaac - green shirt over a white tee, green shirt came off later, and black pants; Taylor - Black tee only and black leather pants; and Zac - a maroon shirt and blue pants. We really got to see Taylor do the drums..better than being close at Philly! He really got into them!! I'm trying to hit on the things that were different from other concerts I've seen. They added special lighting effects that projected colors and designs on the curtain behind them. The colors changed depending on the song and the background graphics were various designs as well as the Hanson logo. Isaac had a little problem getting started on "Sunshine of Your Love" but otherwise everything went well. The encore was three songs: "Look at You" (my favorite), "Sunshine...", and "Summertime Blues". I was so disappointed that they didn't do the a cappella of "Weird", but I later found out that there was some 'disruption' in the crowd and I think they cut it out and got off the stage.
One neat thing..just after Hanson began I noticed a man standing to my left, leaning on the railing. I noticed what he was wearing, and thought "HMM, that's what Christopher Sabec is supposed to be wearing", so I took a chance and went over to the man and asked. Yes, it was he and I had the pleasure of shaking his hand and thanking him personally for bringing us Hanson and the best summer ever!!!~
