Houston Concert Review by Kathy Ferguson

Well, leading up to the concert, I had to deal with my husband badgering me about how much I paid for the tickets (and the price I told him was a tad on the low side....OK, a lot on the low side). But, hey, I saw them in Detroit at Pine Knob with Kim and Michelle from Row G which was actually about 12 to 15 rows back counting the pit area....great seats, but I just felt this "desperate need" to get closer. Well, front row of the pit at the Houston Hanson concert was going for at least $400 a ticket, and even crazy me who seems to give all my extra money to Hanson couldn't see doing that....so I went for Row C on the right (Taylor's side - shriek!) which ended up only a few seats from the stage.

It's hard for me to put into words this second concert experience. In some ways I was more subduded, but excited just the same. It was me and my husband's 10th anniversary of our first date (Sep. 27)....so it wouldn't have been prudent to have a Hanson hormonal explosion right there in front of him....so I remained calm.

It was the regular line up of songs with Gimme Some Lovin'/Shake Your Tailfeather at the beginning.....excellent as usual. The sound system was great. My husband even commented how he could hear every word Hanson was singing....and even when they were talking.

Then came Thinking of You and Where's the Love. WTL seemed to have a little more kick.... it just seemed extra good. Then they sang River, Weird, Sometimes, and Ever Lonely (I think that was the order?). I can't wait to hear Ever Lonely on the Live CD. Then came a new cover, Magic Carpet Ride, which they dedicated to the crew. It was as good as the original. It kicked! I think I jumped the most up to that point during this song.

Next was the acoustic set which included Stories, Soldier, With You In Your Dreams, and Money. Taylor sounded extra special on Stories and With You In Your Dreams. Maybe it was where I was so close, or where the sound was so awesome, but WYIYD brought tears to my eyes....it was beautiful.

Then before Money, Isaac began explaining that this was one of Motown's first hits and it wasn't meant to mean anything....them singing it (i.e. "money, that's what I want"). I thought it was sweet for them to clarify. It had crossed my mind before how it kinda sounded, but I just knew they didn't mean anything by it. Well, Zac sang the opening line of the verse, and I a'bought fell out of my chair! His voice is really soulful and low and sounded wonderful! Thousands of screams followed his intro.

Let's see...then Hanson played .Speechless, Good Lovin', IWC2U, A Minute Without You, Mmmbop, and Man from Milwaukee. The encore included Look at You and Summertime Blues.

OK, now for the exciting parts......I got soaked by Ike, Zac, and Taylor with the supersoakers several times. It was great, they walked over to the right side of the stage and were only within a few feet of me.

During Mmmbop, Taylor was looking my way while he was playing the bongos...and it was that weird thing where he realized I was singing every word with him (OK, so was everyone else in the audience) and he smiled at me...Gush! (Melting, heart skipping a beat, etc.) Seriously, since I was the only one standing in that area over 4 or 5 feet tall, and no one was in front of me, and he was only a few feet away, I really think he did! At least that's how I'll remember it - Heehee! I also got two guitar picks from Ike.

It was a great concert! They were awesome! I just love them more everytime I see them!
