Lori's perspective on the Washington DC concert on July 2nd, 1998
Well we arrived around 3:00 p.m. and they weren't letting people in the park yet, so we went down to the local McDonalds and ate. Not one person in that whole place was without their Hanson T-Shirt and the guys names written all over their faces and bodies. Some girls even had their hair in braids like Zac sometimes wears.
We returned to the park around 4:30 and they were letting people in because there were so many. We could hear the sound check and them talking back and forth to each other. That was cool. The girls were already screaming out by the gates and the fences. The screaming started 3 1/2 hours before the show. At one point, some people were standing up top by the Pavilion looking down at the crowd, so I grabbed my binoculars and looked up and it was Mr. and Mrs. Hanson w/Zoe and Jessica, looking down at the huge crowd starting to form. Jessica is really cute.
They opened the gates at 6:30 p.m. and people were huddled together like sardines and pushing the crowd. We got to our seats and thought we had pretty decent seats until the Pavilion started to fill up, then we had only so-so good seats but binoculars help alot, so bring them.
Admiral Twin came on at exactly 8:00 p.m. They were good. I e-mailed them to let them know they did a good job and Brad, the guitarist e-mailed me back. That was very nice of him. Then it was HANSON time. The curtain came down and pandemonium started. It was so loud, you thought you ears were going to explode. I think the crowd estimate was around 25,000 people and believe me, it sounded like it. They performed all their songs which were excellent. I wish I got to hear more of Isaac's solo. The screams were so loud you could hardly hear him, but from the response of the crowd, he did great. Taylor on the drums, what a sight and sound. He was excellent. Then my boy Zac, squirting everyone with a big super-soaker water gun. The only thing a little disappointing at the end was that they didn't sing "WEIRD" a cappella, which I heard they were doing at most of the other concerts.
We never wanted it to end. They are awesome. No one person in that place, in the Pavilion or on the lawn was sitting. They totally rocked that place down. My daughters and I will always have this to treasure. There definitely is a cure for the Summertime Blues and it is definitely HANSON.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
