Strictly Canadian

A very little is known about the Canadian R&B music scene. Actually there are quite a few superb R&B artists in Canada. Most of them are based in Toronto, the nation's capital. Unfortunately, Canadian R&B artists are not getting enough props that they deserve and many of them have left their country to move to the States for a bigger success. Such artists include Deborah Cox and Tamia. I would like to introduce 2 Canadian artists that I'm particularly interested in.

Glenn Lewis "When Glenn took up singing and song writing at age fourteen it was because of the influences of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Donny Hathaway whose music was played in his home. Today, at age 23, this performer / producer has furthered his musical capabilities by writing and producing an album of his own. Glenn has also taught himself to play keyboards and is now mastering the techniques of engineering and programming in a studio. In his music you'll find all the realities of life and the voice that leaves music lovers begging for more." ('97 Beat Factory)

I found this great artist, Glenn Lewis, on the album titled "GROOVEssentials Volume One" (BEATFACTORY), which I bought on my last trip to Toronto, Canada. BEATFACTORY is a Toronto-based record label specializing in R&B and Hip Hop music and "GROOVEssentials Volume One" is a compilation album that consists of 14 tracks featuring 13 artists. Though I heard only one song of Glenn's ("The Thing To Do"), which is the very first track on this album, his silky smooth voice and beautiful melody line really captured my attention. I'd like to keep my eyes on this young artist full of potentials. (Teo/Sep. 1998)

Denosh "Denosh, like most successful artists, was raised singing in her church from a very early age. When it came time to go to high school, she chose a performing arts school where she was able to hone her many talents including dance. Opening for such acts as Platinum recording artist, Montell Jordan, Denosh's performances have been a perfect blend of her dancing and singing abilities. Denosh can also be seen dancing as Dance Team Captain for the newest NBA franchise, The Toronto Raptors. She has also been invited several times to sing the national anthem before games. Denosh promises to be an undeniable force to be reckoned with in the music world." ('97 Beat Factory)

I heard that this very talented lady has already relocated to the States. Now she lives in New York and she appeared in one of Redman's videos as a dancer. (Teo/Sep. 1998)
