Everybody
speculated a lot on the launch of the first single from the SPICE GIRLS'
second album. It was supposed to be released on a date which it would certainly
not reach a considerable success. We're talking about of a few weeks after
Princess Diana's tragic death. At this moment, Elton John recorded a single
on tribute to the Princess whose profit would go to a charity institution
managed by Diana. Due to this lamentable fact, Spice Up Your Life (SUYL)
single had its launch delayed.
The song mixtures SPICE GIRLS' dancing pop style with beats clearly latin, like salsa, merengue with some lambada and even Brazilian's traditional samba for foreign people. The lyrics show the interaction between the girls and the world, from their point of view, besides inviting everybody, from both sexes, ages and ethnic groups to a great Girl Power style of celebration. The B-side is Spice Invaders, which is a mad and friendly chat between the girls.
The remixes tracks are so varied. Morales replace some keyboard beats
and add a caliente and latin spice in its remixes. Murk's Cuba Libre version
plays with the girls' voices, excluding and them in some parts of the song.
Many chords and effects are added in every part 2 remix and you can even
verify some techno
beats in both of them.
The
criticisms from the press, which is said to be specialized, like always,
weren't very positive. But we've got to remember that pop music doesn't
follow many rules or stereotypes, it's only expression of feelings (all
of them) and rhythms, dancing or melodies. On the other hand, CDNow
(virtual records shop) staff said this is the best SPICE GIRLS single ever
released, because we're talking about the SPICE GIRLS and pop music as
well. The best way to confirm it is listening to the single!

When you're feeling sad and lone
We will take you where you gotta go
Smiling, dancing; everything is free
All you need is positivity!
(Chorus 1)
Colours of the world
Spice Up Your Life!
Every boy and every girl
Spice Up Your Life!
People of the world
Spice Up Your Life!
Aaaahhh...
(Chorus 2)
Slam it to the left
If you're having a good time!
Shake it to the right
If you know that you feel fine!
Chicas to the front
HA! HA! Go round
Slam it to the left
If you're having a good time!
Shake it to the right
If you know that you feel fine!
Chicas to the front
Hi Ci Ya Hold Tide!
Yellow men in Timbuktoo
Colour for both: me and you
Kung-fu fighting
Dancing Queen
Tribal spacemen
And all that's in-between
(Chorus 1)
(Chorus 2)
Flamenco!
Lambada!
But Hip Hop is harder
We moon-walk the Foxtrot
Then Polka the Salsa
Shake, shake, shake: haka
Shake, shake, shake: haka
Arriba!
(Chorus 1)
(Chorus 2) X 2
Ahhh... relax your mind...
The spicy girls are here on the planet earth...
Are you too spicy?
YES!
(whistling) Aye-yoo!
This song is full of valid information. Information
like (telephone) never wee with your knickers on.
Hold, hold (telephone) a minute, that's my phone!
(telephone) Hello?
Hello, um, about... I can't believe my... aaahhh
It's um, it's a mad woman. Get lost!
Melanie's always on the phone.
I'm not always on the phone! I used to be always
on the phone but now I'm not cause I've got ear rot.
And she's always late.
No I'm not, it's my driver, he drives slow. I
like this bit.
(whistling) I've never been any good at whistling.
You can hum then, not whistle.
Uh, hum? eh ha
Where's Geri and Mel at this point?
I think they're asleep.
I thought it was a bit quiet.
No, Geri's writin' a poem under a tree somewhere.
And she's hugging that tree. Hug that tree, Geri!
You'd never guess what, you'd never believe this.
Alright listen to this.
Oh... what is it, Geri?
Oooh... what is it? Listen, listen listen. What
is it? What is it?
Friendship often survives the relationship from
which it was neglected.
What?
Ignoring your conscience allows you to justify
everything! Don't you agree?
Geri, is you readin' that out of a book?
Yeah. Ha ha
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la AHHHH!!!!!
That's what you got to do when you get really
stressed, you just go AHHHH!!!!!
I should be over there eatin' my sweets, I think.
You're so cute. Ginger! You're just so cute.
Alright Ginge, how's your... beep!
No, it's Ginger like Ginger Rogers. It's not
like "ginge".
Well, there's nothing wrong with being ginger.
There is nothing wrong. I'm out of a bottle anyway.
(buzz) Baby, Posh and Ginger and we've got Scary
and Sporty! Yeah!
Mixed together in a cooking pot, you have the
Spice Girls! (Mel B & Geri)
Ba, ba, blah
I want that Indian bit to come again. Where is
it?
Ahh... we are the chosen ones...
it didn't last very long, did it?
Lift your knee up, tap it to the left. Gonna
lift your knee up, tap it to the left.
That could be a new dance.
Ha, ha. We don't wanna get in trouble now do
we? No... I don't know what you mean by that, though. I...
You know... I tried to be defensive...
Exactly...
Exactly, exactly.
I quite like that.
Yeah, I do too.
