part 1 single cover
Stop
is the third single taken from the album SpiceWorld and it's its second
track. It was released on March 3rd in Europe and in June in the US. Stop
is the first SPICE GIRLS single which didn't reach the number one on the
British charts, breaking the cycle of six singles previously released.
But it reached the number two, a position which many artists would like
to have reached. 
That's
why we shouldn't take it as a failure, because reaching the number two
is a really hard work even for veterans... In spite of this, Stop reached
number one in other countries like Norway and Estonia, where every SPICE
GIRLS single reached number one!
Stop is conducted by a very happy rhythm, inspired on the old Motown Records times, which became a synonym of lively and dancing music. The lyrics are followed by traditional drums mixed with beats that can make everyone dances, like Say You'll Be There, which made Stop a song really from the SPICE style.
The
lyrics, metaphorically, talk about the relationship between men/women and
its 
misunderstandings. Till here, nothing weird, if the metaphor used wasn't
a car race or something like this. In a very humorous and funny way, as
usual, the girls describe the problems of a relationship without expectations
of long last, and, since the beginning, turn down any possibility of having
a promising future. Everything described with the most GIRL POWER way of
life...
The
live tracks featured on the part one were taken from the Istanbul concert,
the first one of their careers! This concert can be found at the virtual
shop CDnow,
in its cut version in NTSC format (Brazilian and American). The entire
version, a.k.a. by the
the fans as Pay-per-view version was broadcasted in Brazil by DirecTV,
entirely free. The concert is still not available in Brazil, so the only
choice is buying through the Internet... :-(
The B-side is Ain't No Stopping Us Now, with Luther Vandross. It talks about Luther and the girls together, their friendship and its importance, and also say that nothing can stop them (and don't try to ask so!). The rhythm is also very lively, and took after some big band style, but modernized, of course; it's a song to listen and enjoy! It was first presented at the end of 1997 on a British television special called An Audience with the Spice Girls, where they sang their great hits and answered questions asked from many celebrities from the Queen's island. In Brazil it is on Eurochannel, which is often presenting it.
The
remixes featured on the British versions are from styles, hummm, distinguished.
The Morales Remix one, as usual, is a lengthening of Stop and adds some
beats which are, sometimes, very different from the original or extracts
some as well. The second remix 
of
Stop (Stretch 'n' Vern's Rock & Roll Mix) uses only the two Chorus,
or parts of them, in a song which is considered as a pure techno music,
with the most classic beats of this style (sirens...), which fast became
the most popular one in the European discos.
The American versions, which are also two, are not so different from the British ones: the part one is identical, but the part 2 doesn't feature Ain't No Stopping Us Now (w/ Luther Vandross), but it was replaced by another remix, Stop (Morales Dub). The covers are also identical. With the British part 2, there's a free limited edition mini poster, which is the single cover.
