Viva Forever was the fourth and last single taken from SpiceWorld and was launched in Europe in June 1998. This also was the hardest battle for the girls' popularity, because it's the first single released after Ginger's departure, but it still has her vocals in it. Moreover, Viva Forever is the first single after their first non-UK number one.
Due
to these facts, the international music community had been waiting anxiously
for this release, in order to see which way would go the greatest music
sensation since the Beatles. It was quite disappoint for the pessimists
when they saw Viva Forever reaching number one, not only in the United
Kingdom, but also in the European charts. Once again, we could confirm
that the girls are full of energy and excitement, even as a foursome.
The song is a slow melody, a ballad, which talks about of a love which is gone, but, in a deep inside, will last forever, even if it happens only in the best memories and in the most hidden secrets. There's also a feeling of hope that this love will be born again, maybe in another life or after this one.
The
rhythm, followed by guitars and Spanish sounds, was created with light
beats which are increased in the parts when they sing stronger lyrics or
when higher voices show up. Both remixes (one is only an instrumental version
of the other) were created by Tony Rich, and give the song some Soul and
R'n'B touches, and even some rap parts at the beginning and at some instrumental
parts. Many US fans believe that these are the best remixes ever to a SPICE
GIRLS' song, maybe because R'n'B is really huge over there.
The b-sides were completely forgotten in this single and, as it happened to Stop, Virgin Records decided to include only live versions of songs from SPICE in one of the parts (in this case, the Ltd. Edition). This time, the chosen ones were Say You'll Be There and Who Do You Think You Are. Two massive successes from the first album recorded live in Birmingham during the 1998 World Tour. Still counting on Geri, it's guaranteed fun for the fans, even not being a die-hard one. This Limited Edition single also includes a Limited Edition mini-poster featruing part 1 cover and on the other side backstage pictures from the tour.
Another
interesting point is the video. It doesn't include the girls themselves,
but caricatures of them, which can be considered a successful novelty in
the girls' career. There are animated dolls of the girls which are, in
fact, fairies. The magic and enchanted atmosphere reminds us the Walt Disney's
classics and can convey exactly the environment of a fairy tale.
Once again, the criticisms were less cruel, focusing on the virtues of this song, and they even predicted that this could be a hit in the 1998 European summer. And they were right! Until March 1999, at least, Viva Forever was placed among the best-sellers in the greatest music shops in London. Here in Brazil this was also a very popular song, always figuring in the main radios charts. It can also be considered the most successful song taken from SpiceWorld getting even more airplay than Too Much.
Viva Forever has never been released in the US and in Canada. There are Australian limited series which bring on the cover the image of each Spice Girl in the fairy version. The Ginger Edition had an even more restricted distribution, being available only for Autralian contest winners. These versions have the same soundtrack of the British/European part one.

Do you still remember how we used to be
Feeling together, believe in whatever
My love has said to me
Both of us were dreamers, young love in the sun
Felt like my Saviour, my spirit I gave you
We'd only just begun
Hasta mañana, always be mine
Chorus:
Viva Forever, I'll be waiting
Everlasting, like the sun
Live forever, for the moment
Ever searching for the one
Yes I still remember, every whispered word
The touch of your skin, giving life from within
Like a love song that I'd heard
Slipping through our fingers, like the sands
of time
Promises made, every memory saved
Has reflections in my mind
Hasta mañana, always be mine
(Chorus)
But we're all alone now, was it just a dream
Feelings untold, they will never be sold
And the secret's safe with me
Hasta mañana, always be mine
(Chorus) (2X)
Viva Forever... I'll be waiting...
Everlasting... like the sun...
Live Forever... for the moment...
Ever searching... for the one...
