The Choise
Israel's first participation in the Eurovision Song Contest took place in the 'municipal theatre' of Luxemburg with the song "Ei Sham" (Somewhere).
Ilanit, which is actually named Hanna Tzach, was a very succesfull singer of that time. Ilanit was a part of the duo 'Ilan & Ilanit' which had great hits both in Israel and other countried in Europe, especially Germany. After the duo had split up Ilanit went out as a very succesful solo singer. She had been participating in the 'Israeli Song Festival' almost every year, with nice results.
Nurit Hirsh, who composed the song, had conducted over the orchestra, the only female conductor in the Eurovision history!!
The song had reached the very respected 4th position. This was the highest position of a debut country untill 1994, when Poland had broken that record.
