From the beginning...

When Noel and Liam Gallagher where young they lived in
Manchester right by the Main City grounds. The two boys grew up
together, though in different manners. Liam spent his early teens
getting into fights, while Noel learned to play the guitar. Toward
his late teens, Noel had become an excellent guitar player and
decided to audition for the Inspirational Carpets,a leading pop band
at the time, who were in need of a lead singer. Noel was not quite
their type, but, they enjoyed him so much they took him on as a
Roadie to help when on tour. In the mean time, Liam was quite bored,
and not really getting anywhere.
At about the same time, two guys nicknamed Bonehead and Guigsy
decided to start a band. Bonehead, who could play piano and guitar,
decided that the current singer of their band was sub par so he fired
him. So now we had Bonehead on rhythm, Guigsy on Bass but still no
singer.
One day in their local pub Bonehead and Guigsy heard that a
local boy named Liam could sing quite well. Since they were in need
of a singer, they found him and asked for a demo. Based on what they
heard, they immediately liked him and took him on. So now we had a
lead singer (Liam), Rhythm guitarist (Bonehead) and Bassist (Guigsy).
At this point, the band was good, but by no means any better
than any other bands around. They still needed something... something
to set them apart. That something came along in the form on Liam's
brother, Noel. About that point, Noel, who had been touring with the
Inspirational Carpets, came back to town upon hearing that Liam had a
band and decided to watch them.
Noel thought that the band was quite good, but could be even
better with his managerial skills and tricks of the trade he learned
during his escapades with Inspirational Carpet. At that point, the
fate of the band changed forever. Noel, showing a glimpse of the
personality that many have come to love and hate, states that if he
is left complete control they will be on top of the pop charts within
two years. Nobody believed him, yet, they all knew they were going
nowhere fast, so, they gave in to Noel. Liam was especially hard to
convince, because he hated to lose his band to his big brother, but
he saw the sense in the decision.
Once Noel gained control, he began to institute an every night
practice regiment, and eventually they began to think they played
pretty good. They even reached the point where they sacrificed visits
to the pub for practice. It was at this time that Noel taught the
band to play a few of his own tunes (i.e. "Supersonic",
"Columbia").
About this point, the small local band called Oasis began to
play a few local gigs, and continued doing so until they were invited
to attend, but not play, a large scale show in Glasgow. They jump at
the chance, and, as fate would have it, one band fails to show so
they take stage and play their first major venue.
It was at this concert that Liam, dressed classy in all white,
was noticed by Alan McGee from Creation Records. Alan was immediately
impressed by Liam's attire, look, and overall demeanor. Yet, he had
no idea that Liam was the lead singer of a band. Oasis was then
called up onstage and, much to the surprise of the CR scout, the man
he had just seen was the lead singer!
So Oasis went on to play Noel's first two songs, after which
the scout promptly offered them a record deal. He was further
impressed after they performed "I Am the Walrus." He was recorded as
stating:
" The lead singer (Liam) had a remarkable attitude and
brilliant voice. The guitarist (Noel) was good and when he played 'I
am the Walrus' he proved how good he was. I knew after two songs that
i wanted that band."
What Noel had originally promised had finally come true. Two
years earlier, he had promised that with control of the band, they
would be at the top of the pop charts in two years, and there they
were...
The band graciously accepted their record deal and soon after
released their first single - "Live Forever." This release changed
the face of the U.K. music charts forever. No more rap, no more rave.
Oasis was there, and is here, to stay.
The release of "Live Forever" made people take notice of Oasis.
The release of "Some Might Say" garnered them their first number one
hit. Then, with the release of "Supersonic" and "Roll With It" talk
emerged of Oasis being the greatest band to come out of Europe since
the Beatles, and that they just might be the best band of all
time.
The rest, my friends, is - as they say- history.
