Kill 'em all
The true birth of thrash. On Kill 'Em All, Metallica fuses the tight, controlled riffing of N.W.O.B.H.M. bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Diamond Head with the velocity of Motorhead and punk and hardcore bands. James Hetfield's technical rhythm guitar style drives most of the album, especially on classic tracks like "The Four Horsemen," "Jump in the Fire," and "Seek and Destroy." Unlike later releases, there isn't much variation (apart from a lyrical bass solo from Cliff Burton), but the band's jaw-dropping power makes up for it. An Elektra reissue added the cover songs "Blitzkrieg" and "Am I Evil?" from the European Creeping Death EP, which have since been deleted but are worth tracking down
