(March 30, 2002) N*E*R*D VIDEO
It was reported earlier that
Hype Williams had shot the video for N*E*R*D's (a.k.a. The
Neptunes) Rock Star Poser earlier this year. The
black & white video was to have the group performing in 60's
clothing, emulating The Beatles performance on the Ed Sullivan
Show. For one reason or another, that version was not
released. A second version of the video (with N*E*R*D
performing in a high school gym) was released this past week and was
directed by Diane Martel.

that killed singer Aaliyah and 7 of her crew. Families of the
two hairstylists killed in the crash, Eric Foreman and Anthony Dodd,
have filed wrongful death lawsuits against Aaliyah's record
company. In addition to Virgin Records America, the defendants
listed were music video director Harold "Hype" Williams,
Instinct Productions Inc., Big Dog House Films, Blackground Records
LLC, Skystream, Inc. and Blackhawk International Airways. Hype

(December
31, 2001 - January 1, 2002) YEAR-END REVIEW 2001
As the year comes
to a close, it's time to take a look back at the work of
Hype Williams in 2001. Hype directed roughly 14 new
videos this year, including a few for pop artists such as
Stella Soleil (Kiss Kiss), Shelby
Lynne (Killin' Kind), and Jessica
Simpson (A LIttle Bit); as well
as some for hip-hop artists he's worked with in the past:
DMX (Ain't No Sunshine), Busta
Rhymes (What It Is & Break
Ya Neck), Babyface (There She
Goes), LL Cool J (Fatty Girl).
My personal favorites include Killin' Kind
(Shelby Lynne), There She Goes
(Babyface), & Rock The Boat
(Aaliyah). My least favorites were Lay
Low (Snoop Dogg) and Break Ya Neck
(Busta Rhymes). Hype also worked on other
projects such as directing high-profile commercials for Mountain
Dew (feat. Busta Rhymes) and a promo for the 2003
Toyota Matrix. 2001 was also a sad year in
Hype's career, with the plane-crash death of Aaliyah
following the shooting of her music video Rock The
Boat in Bahamas (which Hype directed). Hype
will be quite busy in 2002, with previously announced
projects to develop an urban drama for UPN and his movie
deal with New Line Pictures.
