PEPPER COMMERCIALS
I mentioned last year that Paul Hunter
had shot commercials for Dr.
Pepper which featured Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray, rappers Black
Eyed Peas, and Latin singer Thalia. The commercials
have begun airing in mid-February. The commercials feature the
artists performingtributes to past recording artists such as rock and roll great Buddy Holly (McGrath), Latin music star Tito
Puente (Thalia) and jazz icons Ella Fitzgerald and Louie Armstrong (Black
Eyed Peas). The campaign emphasizes the originality, individuality and personality of all recording artists featured.

JAMES KING JOINS BULLETPROOF MONK
|
HSI NAMED PRODUCTION
COMPANY OF THE YEAR
The
Hollywood
Reporter reported in mid-December that actress James King has
signed on to play the villain character in Paul Hunter's upcoming movie Bulletproof
Monk. She joins previously announced cast-members Chow Yun-Fat
and Seann William Scott. James King will play a "sexy Russian
mob princess called Bad Girl". Other sources report that
actresses Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodrigues had originally auditioned
for the role.
Creativity
magazine has named HSI
Productions as Production Company of the Year for 2001.
Paul Hunter's success with commercials for Gap and Nike this past year
had greatly influenced the decision.
(December 31, 2001 -
January 1, 2002) YEAR-END REVIEW 2001
As the year comes to a close,
it's time to take a look back at the work of Paul Hunter in 2001.
2001 was a landmark year for Paul, who spent his time split between
videos, commercials, and developing a movie career. All of his
work this year has been well-received and highly publicized. He
only directed 7 videos this year, including notable ones such as Lady
Marmalade (Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink, Lil' Kim), We
Need A Resolution (Aaliyah), and the high-profile come-back
video for Michael Jackson's You Rock My World. My
personal favorites were Guilty Until Proven Innocent (Jay Z),
Like A Feather (Nikka Costa), and We Need A
Resolution (Aaliyah). For his great work in music videos
this year, Paul Hunter received the award for Best Director
at the 2001 Billboard Music Video Awards.
Paul Hunter also made a mark in the
commercial industry, directing some of the most popular commercials this
year: Nike Jordan "Much Respect" (feat. Michael
Jordan), the mega-popular Nike "Freestyle" commercial, Gap
Denim "My First Love" commercials, and Gap's Holiday
2001 commercials. He also directed commercials for Coca
Cola, Mountain Dew Code Red, Dasani Water, and Miller
Beer. To top off an already extraordinary year, it was
announced in November that Paul Hunter will direct his first feature
film, Bulletproof Monk, early in 2002. The movie, which
stars Chow Yun-Fat and Sean William Scott, begins shooting in Toronto in
February 2002. Although we probably won't see too many music
videos and commercials from Paul Hunter next year, we certainly look
forward to see what great things he does with his new movie.
