Cinderella

I showed this one to Emma before I was even done with it. But she didn't like it. She said it sounded more like instructions than a poem.
We had to write a poem for English, for the shape poetry. I just kept this in the original form that I wrote it in, since I don't like the shape I came up with for when I turned it in.
If you can't see the font that "cinderella" is in, I feel sorry for you...

cinderella

born a lady, raised as a man;
her father doing the best that he can;
after mother died, steps in a new mother at the age of eight;
along with two step sisters, all on the same date;
father dies shortly after, leaving her behind;
then made a slave in her own house;
left to sleep in the dining room with every mouse;
12 years later, come upon a prince to marry;
spends a day with him, riding around on his horse;
day then comes to a close;
"I wish to see you again" he'll say;
"what about tomorrow?";
"I shall try";she answers before slipping away;
"then I shall wait all day"; he shouts to the sky;
next day, she slips from her stepmothers grasp;
meets him in an old cathedral, sitting next to pane of glass;
both fall in love that night;
spending time with each other till the mornings light;
next few days a ball is thrown at palace;
stepmother locks cinderella in dark room so she cannot attend;
she plans the prince to marry her daughter;
stepmother and daughters go to ball, leaving cinderella behind;
within a half hour, house servents help cinderella out of the room;
fix her up, dress her up;
send her off to claim the prince from her stepsisters doom;
all eyes upon her as she enters the palace ball room;
prince astonished at the sight of her;
dances with the prince, being the envy of every girl there;
clock starts to chime as it gets to midnight;
she must go, she can't stay;
running from the man of her dreams, she escapes;
to outside the palace, into her awaiting carrage;
they leave right away, leaving but one trace of her visit;
a single shoe that she had worn;
next day, she receives lashes from her stepmother;
just simply for attending the ball, she gets punished;
while the prince reasons to find the girl;
who had worn the shoe and left it for him to find;
he searches every house in the city;
comes upon conderella's household;
cinderella made last to try the show on;
but still showing how it fit her foot;
the prince now knew who he belonged with;
cinderella then knew the same also
