I saw The Dandys for the first time when I went to England back in August. What luck, that they just happened to be playing during the 2 weeks that I would be in the UK! Andy told me they'd be playing, but he didn't remember where, so I had to call him a couple days later and find out..
Turns out, they'd be playing some weird place called Break for the Border, in some town called Peterborough, about an hour north of London on the train.
I was so lucky to have actually found it, when I went to Peterborough I was so confused as to where the Town Square was, and kept asking everyone where this Break for the Border place was, and everyone kept telling me it was on Broadway (like that meant anything to me!) but luckily, later on I found it.
In front of the place there was this picture of The Dandys (with new drummer Paul Blant) and it said they'd be playing with 2 bands, one called The Blue Furryz and the other called Nikita. I overheard some guy by the door saying they were "Shed Sevenish, indie pop." Bwahahaha.
I went inside at like 8, and no-one was there yet. The place started getting a bit more crowded with all these weird people and one of the bands, I think the Blue Furryz started to play. They were horrible, enough said.
So were Nikita, they were vile, Mike from The Dandys agreed as well! At least I think he did, I don't know, it was loud in there..
The Dandys came on and I thought they were very fabulous. It was interesting seeing Andy Firth with an acoustic guitar, I didn't think he liked to play onstage. All of the songs were new, except for the lovely " 'Til There Was You", which is a b-side to "You Make Me Want to Scream," and thankfully, probably my favorite Dandys song ever! "Tomorrow People" is nifty and spacey, and probably my fave new Dandys song. I like this spacey direction they might be going into... The Dandys doing space rock? I think they'd be good at it! I also heard "Nightclubbin'" for the first time and I think it's amazingly catchy... so catchy, it's in my head as I type this. It's got a sorta 80s club feel to it as well. "Do What You Want" was also really good, but for some reason I don't remember it very well. I can't wait until The Dandys change their name and FINALLY start releasing some new stuff!!! Anyway, they were great, they are great, and I'm very envious of all of you who live in the UK and can see them live all the time!!!
