OTT may be storming the charts now but can they cast their minds back to a time when they stocked supermarket shelves, bought dodgy records and cried if their mums left them on their own? So OTT..
Your First Memory...
Adam:
It was my first day at school. I stood at the window waving to my mum in floods of tears. I could see her standing outisde and kept checking she hadn't left - she stayed 'til lunchtime!
Niall:
Mine was watching my father do karate, I was about four!
Alan:
I remember having a family photo done, I wore this horrible long-collared shirt and a nasty blue jumper!
Glen:
I weeded my neighbour's marrow patch and pretended to eat the weeds for breakfast.
Keith:
When I was six I stood on me dad's shoes and we waitzed round the kitchen.
The first record you bought...
Niall:
It was Take On Me by A-ha.
Adam:
Probably Whitney Houyston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Alan:
Mine was Cyndi Lauper, Time After Time
Glen:
Wild Boys by Duran Duran.
Keith:
And mine was Price, When Doves Cry.(Does scareee impession!)
Your first parentless holiday...
Niall:
I went to Spain with my sister. I was 12 and I went out with a Swedish girl - the first topless girl I ever met. I had problems looking as far up as her face!
Alan:
I stayed in a country house and went horse-riding.
Adam:
Mine was a school trip to Germany.
Keith:
I went camping with me mates in Tramore, Ireland when I was 17, we stayed in a tent which had huge holes in it - our sleeping bags were soaked!
Glen:
My mate Bob and I jumped over a campsite wall and pitched our tent on the other side. We thought we were smart for not paying but as soon as we went out all our stuff disappeared!
Your first date...
Niall:
We didn't have real dates. If you met a girl you'd just go for a walk around the park.
Alan:
Mine was when I was 15 and after we'd gone out for two weeks she dumped me on Valentines' Day.
Adam:
I went to the cinema, but I can't remember what I saw or who it was with!
Glen:
I've been going out with girls since I was about two so it's a way of life!
Keith:
My sister is two years younger than me so when she brought her friends round to the house I used to practise my kissing on them. Does that count?
Your first job...
Adam:
When I was 12 I drove around Ireland with my father's friend delivering wine to shops.
Niall:
My first job was caddying on a golf course, carrying the player's golf bags.
Alan"
I stocked shelves in the supermarket on a Saturday. It was alright, but the money was rubbish.
Glen:
The first job I had was as a barman, in Beltons. It's erm, where all the gangsters go.
Keith:
My mam and da had a chippie and I used to put the burgers and sausages out to be cooked. Did I sprinkle on the salt and vinegar? No, they wouldn't let me do anything complicated!
your first impressions of each other...
Keith:
When Adam finished his song at the auditions I stood up and started applauding cos he was so good.
Niall:
I heard one of the band selectors say, 'He's in'!
Alan:
I'm not a bubbly person and when I met Keith he went blah-de-blah-gibber-gibber. I thought, 'Oh no!'
Keith:
The next time we met, Alan wore a bandana!
Alan:
You were wearing a blue and white spotted on!
Glen:
Bah, you were just looking at your own reflection!
Keith:
Anyway, we called for Niall and Glen and left Adam until the end because we didn't know he was in!
Adam:
I heaard a rumour I hadn't got the job, so I was really surprised to be asked back for a second audition. That was the first time I met Niall.
The first time you saw an articles about OTT...
Niall:
There were two around the same time.
Keith:
One said, 'Over The Top And Under Wraps'.
Niall:
And the other said, 'They're going to be Top Of The Pop!' Now we're in the magazine and on the show!
Your first TV Performance...
Adam:
It was a chat show, Kenny Live. We performed our first Irish single, Promise Me.
Niall:
We were trembling but we did a live vocal.
Adam:
(Embarrassed) When you see those haircuts...
Alan:
The clothes!
Glen:
And the dance routine!
Adam:
It's not what we'd do now!
Niall:
I was told not to dance but I was so nervous I did the routine anyway and my voice came out dodgy!
Keith:
And then we all finished together except Glen who did an extra twirl!
Your first TOTP performacne...
Adam:
It was a dream come true. We walked into the studio and it was only then, when we saw the stage and the lights that we thought, 'Wow, we're here!
Niall:
And when we saw the TOTP sign I said, 'Wouldn't it be great if we could rearrange it for the day to say OTTP - Over The Top Pops!'
Erm, yes, thanks Niall!
