BETRAYED
Music:  Heinonkari, Hoag, Yrkki, Assman
Lyrics:  Assman

It is quite obvious after reading these lyrics that this song is about someone.  Who it's about is not important here, but it was written at a time when I was pissed off at somebody.  Not being one who USUALLY holds a grudge, I allowed myself to get over the incident that was the source of my annoyance.  The lyrics were written back in the later part of 1994.  I'm not sure why I chose to use the train imagery but once I started writing, it seemed to work well.  For some reason I shelved the lyrics without putting them to music until a later date.  This later date was about January of 1996 when Jari had just joined the band.  Jari had come up with the main chorus riff of the song.  I had just recently found the lyrics for Betrayed and found that the verses seemed to work well with the riff.  With that, the song just naturally came together.  It turns out that this song happens to be the most radio-friendly on the album.  It wasn't written with that in mind, but I certainly won't complain.  I am happy that my music can get air time on the radio.  The best three song set that I heard on Terrace's CFNR radio had Betrayed sandwiched between "Cool Kids" by Screeching Weasel and "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones, the two bands that have influenced me more than any other.  Sigh.  It brings a tear to my eye.

You chose me for my talents, my skills of the trade
And at the railroad crossing the tracks had been laid
Your engine was of harmony driving day and night
The rhythm of the railcars could do no wrong just right

With steady forward motion creativity lurched
Destination victory for which we'd have to search
But then at the roundhouse, you went a different way
I was left in your dust, and this is what I say

You betrayed me my world was falling down
You betrayed me left me rotting in this town
I had so much to offer if you only knew
I will show you I can do it without you

It never really matter how it would be done
You siphoned off my energy and then went on the run
You may be successful and leave me to die
But it doesn't really matter as long as I try

I may not achieve what together we might have
But if I get satisfaction then I can only laugh
I know that your gone now and that's where you should stay
'Cause I know what I'm doing is better anyway

You betrayed me my world was falling down
You betrayed me left me rotting in this town
I had so much to offer if you only knew
I will show you I can do it without you

You chose me for my talents, my skills of the trade
And at the railroad crossing the tracks had been laid
Your engine was of harmony driving day and night
The rhythm of the railcars could do no wrong just right
But then at the roundhouse, you went a different way
I was left in your dust, and this is what I say

You betrayed me my world was falling down
You betrayed me left me rotting in this town
I had so much to offer if you only knew
I will show you I can do it without you

You betrayed me and I don't really care
You betrayed me, who said life was fair
I had so much to offer if you only knew
I will show you I can do it without you
