ALBUM INFO:
BAND OF GYPSYS
After the Experience broke up (July 1, 1969), Jimi formed The Band Of Gypsys, featuring himself, Billy Cox and Buddy Miles. He still owed Ed Chalpinan album, and it was decided to record it live during the Fillmore East, becuase this would be eaasier and cheaper. He was sceduled for two shows, and at the first one, he was asked to do his best show ever. He pulled all his old tricks; playing behind his back, with his teeth, upside down, fucking and smashing the guitar, and the audience loved it. But no matter how satisfied Jimi and the audience was, this kind of show was no good on tape, just live. So, for the next show, Jimi concentrated on playing music, and this show was used on the album. 'Machine Gun' was, as Jimi put it; "dedicated to all the troops fighting in Harlem, Chicago, and, oh yes: Viet Nam."
