DEUSDEMOTEME zine # 9

Como bônus, a DT traz, numa versão ao vivo, a música "The Forest Of N'Gay do Rotting Christ.

ROCK BRIGATE #132

SATANAEL zine

More Brazilian stuff for your ears! Morcrof is a band from São Paolo and they have recorded this tape, which I guess is their first demo tape. Although it's a bit old now, I think it deserves a brief review due that for the people outside the American Continent our scene is very unusual. Anyway, I must admit that this is the only stuffs I've received from them. "Scientia Ab Mortuus" delivers four songs and between each tune is na intro. One of the songs is in a live version. Music wise the band stands in the path of old school death black metal, maybe a little bit similar to what Murder rape did in their second album, a kind of old Samael combined qith the growling voice of, let's say Immolation. The sound is very good as well as the presentation (colores cover). Anyway, I must admit that the band doesn't show any original or interesting idea, but however the music is very played.

GARMONBOZIA zine

Old stuff, I know but there isn't any newer one from the band and also I guess this piece is still worth the listening. Maybe I could call it ( as they do) some kind of occult metal but in a very dreamlike ( I mean "velvet") form. Here we have three own tracks with some "intros" before, between and after them which are based on beautiful and emotional female singing, spelling a vision of medieval nuns like glowing flowers in a shaded and cold stone monastery. The songs are something like epic death/doom metal with many interesting keyboards melodies, a few different vocals and pretty soft sound and fascinating, somehow broken song-structure, a bit improvisative I guess. Also we can hear a cover from ROTTING CHRIST which surely fits well to their face. All in all, it's a pretty unique and creative stuff ( and better realized than MALKUTH if we talk about Brazilian ones) as it's usual with bands from the third world. Absolutely worth those USD 6 /9/

LEDO TAKAS zine #3 - 1998

São Paulo (Brazil) established six-piece delivers the first effort since the inception in date 1992, consisting of one live track as well as a complete studio session. Firstly: production, mastering and surely recording lack an elementary base - fact in that my tape received is not the perfect example (that might damage a half of the sound). But the other half is due to that poor engineering, which makes every instrument sound like in a water- closet, no better...
Away from that music inspired by local black/death pioneers Murder Rape and Sarcófago. Almost anywhere - doomy slow attitude, low-tuned bass and guitars and evil sounding vocals with several narrative parts. That actually reminds death/doom more than death/black.
What makes Morcrof a bit more stirring are these intros and other non-metal tracks. One part of them make a kind of epopee (having Epigrafe, Epigrama, Epítase, Epílogue, Epitáfio in itself), full of female choruses and flute-laden misanthropy. By the way, this unit has a keyboard player too - he must take much more care the overall picture of the dark art.
With better production, thicker ideas of real tracks - maybe... So far - nothing special.

ETERNAL REST zine #3 - 1997

Brazilian scene continue to offer interesting & promising bands after the Sepultura's boom and, acts like: Mythological Cold Tower, Serpent Rise or Oráculo, with these M. from São Paulo, create a good "team" of rising groups. Here we have a sympho-evocative black metal with obscure & evil atmospheres, catchy & powerful that you'll certainly enjoy. The tape is completely written in Portuguese and, as final track of these 30 minutes there's also the space for a Rotting Christ's cover...

BOWEDONE zine #1 - 1997

Dark, atmospheric metal from the forests of Brazil... Sound fine with me. This tape comes in color covers with a lyric-sheet.
The intros and outros are taken from some female choir recording. It's kind of doomy dark metal this, with spoken, growling and quite normal vocals - which all need improvement.
Morcrof seem a bit hectic but this is just about a promising start to another dark doom/ death band. There's also Rotting Christ cover live at the end of the tape so it ain't all bad...

BLACK GOAT zine #2 - 1997

Morcrof "Scientia Ab Mortuus" demo, another serious act from the Brazilian scene, besides the legendary Sarcófago, the Morcrof formation date from '92. The music stands for slow melodious Dark Death Metal, the lyrics were based upon the sad existence of this absurd life and humankind before and after the mysterious of death as a last step... There were included two vocals which gives a different and real state of darkness to music that I say before is well performed with a true feeling into what they develops it, the tape include Intro / Midtros / Outros kinds celestial choirs and music. Comes with pro colored cover get this worthy from Paullus Moura.

ANCIENT CEREMONIES zine #2 - 1998

Well, I will start with the sound in this tape... another unprofessional release, which doesn't possess a very good & clear production. This Brazilian. Plays doom, dark music with a female and dark vocals. Some of those chants and surroundfull spoken tunes don't give that extra credit to the music... Also they are very similar with Amen Corner's spoken parts... But what gives the boring edge in Morcrof is the melodies in some introductions of the songs and the guitar sound... And thinking they charge $6 for a foreign order... I will not recommend this by any means...

MORPHEUS zine #3 - 1998

This release has to us from Brazil and presents a very promising group. Morcrof seem to continue with their pieces of work the tradition of the good bands, that have been created in this country. They prefer to deal with black metal in their own way. They perform mid-tempo black metal, that uses a lot of melodies and epic parts, while keyboards support and emphasize on them. The use of flute in some songs also contributes to the good work and causes a sensation, as its melodies remind of indian music. Finally, I'd say this demo's a very good proposal to all black metal fans.
