Born Oct. 3rd, 1954, in Dallas Texas, Stevie Ray Vaughan spent much of his childhood moving around the south, due to his fathers job in construction. He started playing guitar around the age of ten.
His first band experience was in his early teens, when he played bass for his brother Jimmie's band, Texas Flood. In the sumer of '70, he formed the band Blackbird, playing Hendrix and Cream covers in Dallas-Fort Worth area clubs.
After several years and several bands, he formed the Triple Threats, who made their Debut at Austin's Soap Creek Saloon on aug. 8, '76. In 78, they change their name to Double Trouble, inspired by the Otis Rush song of the same name. They grow in popularity, and in '82, record the album "Texas Flood," which was released by Epic Records in June of 1983. Later that year, it recieves the "Best Guitar Album" award from Guitar Player magazine. In 1990, Double Trouble recieves a Grammy for "Best contemporary BLues Record," following the release of "In Step."
On Aug. 26th, 1990, SRV played the Alpine Valley Amphitheatre, along with brother Jimmie, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and Robert Cray. Shortly after ending the night with "Sweet Home Chicago," SRV boarded a helicopter, heading for Chicago. However, shortly after taking off, the helicopter crashed into a hillside, killing everyone on board.
