Chapter Seven

Sidney and Alexis went onto the dance floor and started dancing to Madonna's "Beautiful Stranger."

"Hey Sid, Joey Fatone was hitting on me earlier."

"Lexi, he's been hitting on every girl in here!"

"Yeah, but I think he's pretty hot."

"Don't get any ideas."

"Well, one of us should get some tonight!"

"I'm going to pretend you didn't say that."

The song ended and Brian McKnight's "Back at One" came on. Alexis ran over and snatched Joey away from this girl he was talking to and began to slow dance with him. Several guys came up to Sidney and asked her to dance but she turned them all down. She was making her way off the dance floor when she ran into Justin.

"Sid, look I wanted to apologize for what happened."

"It's okay."

"So you wanna dance?"

She heard herself say yes as she followed him back onto the floor. He wrapped his hands around her waist and she placed her hands on his shoulders.

"See, I'm not such a bad guy."

"I still have my doubts."

"What can I do to prove to you my good intentions."

"Let's just finish this dance and we can go from there."

"Sounds like a plan to me."

Sidney smiled and Justin pulled her closer to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and laid her head on his chest. Justin began to softly sing in her ear:

"One, you're like a dream come true,
Two, just wanna be with you,
Three, girl it's plain to see that you're the only one for me,
And four, repeat steps one thru three,
Five, make you fall in love with me.
If ever I believe my work is done then I'll start back at one."

The song ends and Justin took Sidney's hand and led her off the floor. She noticed Alexis and Joey still dancing. She could see where that was going and smiled to herself.

"Oh no."

Sidney turned to Justin who had a worried look on his face.

"What's wrong?"

"It's my ex-girlfriend." Sidney looked and saw the girl he was talking about.

"You went out with Kimberly Clayton? I saw one of her movies"

"Yeah, let's go over here."

"Okay."

Justin quickly grabed Sidney's hand and led her to the opposite side of the club.

"I take it your relationship with her didn't go too well."

"It was okay at first but I came to find out that we had nothing in common."

"Then why'd you date her in the first place?"

"I think I did it because it was expected by everyone for us to be together."

"I know exactly how you feel."

"That's why I like you Sid."

"You've only known me for a few hours."

"Have you ever had that feeling when you first meet someone but it feels like you've known them your whole life?"

"Yeah, I have."

"I had that same feeling when I met you."

"I know, I felt something too."

"I'm glad."

"Me too."

Justin leaned down to kiss her again but this time Sidney met him half way.

"Excuse me."

Justin and Sidney pull apart to find Kimberly standing there.

"Oh, hi Kim."

"And you are?", Kim said glaring at Sidney.

"My name is Sidney, the designer who's show you just went to."

"Oh, how nice."

Justin could feel the tension build so he decided to step in.

"Kim, why don't we go get a drink?"

"My thoughts exactly baby."

Kimberly rolled her eyes at Sidney as she took Justin's arm in hers. Justin looked at Sidney and could see the hurt in her eyes.

"I'll see you later Sid, okay?"

"Yeah, whatever."

Sidney walked away as Justin and Kimberly make their way over to the bar. Hours went by and the party soon ended. Sidney said her good-byes and left without speaking to Justin again.
