Chapter Two

Ana, Lexa and their mother headed back to their suite after tea to relax. Ana said she is exhausted and went into her bedroom. She was just getting ready to take a nap when she heard a tap on the door.

"Come in."

The door opens and Joseph walks in. Ana silently sighs and gets up.

"Darling, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, I just feel a little tired, that's all."

"Well, I have some news that might cheer you up."

Ana waits, not really interested in whatever Joseph has to say.

"I was just talking to Duke Canterbury and he said he was going to attend our wedding--isn't that great?"

"Oh, delightful."

"And also..."

Ana didn't really hear the rest of what Joseph had to say. She was caught up in her own thoughts. She wondered if this is all her life was to hold--fancy parties, mingling with royalty and being shown off like a trophy.

"Darling?"

Ana turned back to Joseph.

"Yes?"

"Do you like the idea?"

"What idea?"

"About us getting a second home on the coast of Virginia--it's beautiful in the summer."

"That's fine," she said without emotion.

Joseph didn't seem to notice her strange behavior and left to tell everyone else the news. Ana sat on her bed a while longer in a daze. She finally gets up and walks into the bathroom. She looks at herself in the mirror. 'I can't live like this,' she thought. She took out Joseph's razor blade and stared at it.

"This is the only way I will be free," she said, "I will be with you soon Father."

Ana places the razor to her wrist and cuts open her skin. She watched as the warm blood trickled down her arm. She didn't even feel any pain. She put the razor to her other wrist to do the same when someone knocked on the bathroom door.

"Ana, are you okay?"

It was Lexa. Ana looked at the door but then put her concentration back to the razor.

"Ana?"

Lexa opened the door to see her sister covered with blood and holding a razor to her wrist.

"Ana!"

Lexa lunged for the razor blade and managed to get it out of Ana's grasp. By this time, Ana started to feel dizzy for the loss of blood. She collapsed to the floor as Lexa started to panic. She took a towel and wrapped Ana's cut wrist. She was able to stop the bleeding somewhat and Ana opened her eyes.

"Don't tell Mother Lexa, please," she whispered before fainting again.

Lexa got Ana back into the bedroom and put her on her bed. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't tell her mother or Joseph--they would just think Ana was crazy and Lexa knew she wasn't. She made sure Ana was okay for the moment and left the room. Luckily, her mother and Joseph weren't in the suite anymore. Lexa left and ran down the hallway. She didn't know where she was going, just that she needed to find help for her sister. She ran and as she rounded a corner she bumped into a person.

"Oh, I'm so sorry sir."

The man was picking up the papers he had dropped. He stood back up and Ana's eyes widened.

"Are you okay," the stranger asked.

Ana nodded slowly. She was looking into the eyes of the man she had admired earlier.

"My name's Joshua and you are?"

"Alexandria but Lexa for short."

"That's a beautiful name."

Ana blushed but soon remembered Ana.

"I'm sorry, I have to go."

"Wait, what's your rush?"

Lexa thought for a second and figured that maybe this stranger could help.

"My sister's hurt and she needs some medical help."

"How bad is she?"

"Um, I think she's okay for the moment but I need to be sure."

"Okay, wait right here for a sec, okay?"

"Okay."

Joshua ran off and left Lexa standing in the corridor. She had waited for about 5 minutes and was about to leave when she saw Joshua running toward her.

"Lexa, this is Nathan and he can help your sister."

Lexa looked at the man. "Are you a doctor?"

"Well, I don't have a degree if that's what your asking."

Lexa pulled Joshua off to the side.

"I don't know about that guy--he's not even a doctor."

"He knows what he's doing--trust me."

Lexa looked into his eyes and knew she could put her faith in him. Lexa led them back to their room. Ana was still laying on the bed as they entered. Nathan went over to Ana's side and looked at her wound. He glanced up at Lexa as he realized the cause of the wound.

"It's not too deep so she doesn't need stitches."

"So, she'll be okay."

"Physically, yes."

"What does that supposed to mean?" Lexa said raising her voice.

"Nothing, I'm sorry."

Nathan began putting bandages on Ana's wrist.

"Okay, you'll have to change the bandages at least twice a day until the wound has closed."

"Okay, thank you."

"Don't mention it."

Joshua thanked Nathan as well and he left. Lexa touched Ana's cheek as she began to cry.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

Lexa turned back to Joshua. "No, thank you for everything, though."

Joshua smiled and prepared to leave.

"Wait," Lexa yelled.

Joshua turned back to Lexa.

"Is this it, I mean, I will see you again, right?"

Joshua looked into Lexa's sparkling brown eyes. He had traveled all over Europe and never had he seen such a beautiful girl.

"Do you believe in fate?" he asked.

"Yes, I guess I do."

"Then we will see eachother again."

Joshua smiled and walked out of the room. Lexa went and laid down next to her sister. Her first day on Titanic was a dramatic experience and she found herself curious about what tomorrow had in store for everyone.
