Chapter Two

The first day back at Bronson was almost over. Everyone went to their classes but didn't really pay any attention to the teachers. Kia and Cari had most of their classes together so they were pretty happy. It was around noon and everyone gathered back in the courtyard. Kia sat down on the bench next to Reese.

"So, Reese are you ready for Homecoming this year?"

"Kia, homecoming is not until next month."

"Early preparation is essential. You're a sure win for queen."

"Whatever, there are plenty of girls that can beat me out."

"Yeah like who?"

"Well, there's Sarah..."

"As if, she's such a hag!"

"I just don't want to get my hopes up."

"You'll win; I guarantee it."

"Whatever you say Kia."

"By the way, how's Chris?"

"He's fine."

"God, you're so lucky to have a college man."

"It's not that big of a deal Kia, besides, it looks like someone is waiting for you to take notice."

Reese motioned over to the other side of the yard. Kia looked over and saw Justin and his posse. He glanced over at Kia and smiled.

"Justin? No way!"

"He has the hots for ya Kia, why not give him a chance?"

"Haven't you been listening Reese, he's in high school."

"And so are you! He's a great guy."

"Yeah, he's a good friend and that's all he'll ever be."

"We'll see."

"Kia!" Cari yelled.

Kia turned to see Cari walking over with JC holding on to her waist.

"I think I'm going to hang out with the rest of the crew tonight."

"Okay, but I can't."

"Then I won't go."

"No, one of us should be able to have some fun tonight."

"And don't let Joey give you any shit just because he has a girlfriend now."

"Come on baby," JC said kissing Cari's neck.

"Relax JC! Can't you see I'm talking to Kia?"

"But we're going to have to go back to class soon," he whined.

"You two go have your fun! I'll talk to you later Cari."

"K, later."

Cari led an eager JC to their traditional secluded area. Kia smiled to herself as she thought about the occasional quickie Cari gave JC.

"Hey Kia, don't look now but here comes your Romeo."

Kia watched as Justin started walking toward her.

"Shut up Reese."

"What're you girls talking about?" Justin asked.

"Oh, just about Kia's love life."

Kia elbowed Reese.

"Really? I'm sure that's an interesting subject," Justin said smiling.

"Whatever Justin."

Kia stood up just as the bell rang. Justin watched her walk away. He wanted to tell her how much he cared about her but he knew that could destroy their friendship. Kia felt Justin's eyes on her but she didn't look back. Sharanda ran up to Kia as she was getting ready to go to her class.

"Kia?"

"Shar, what's up?"

"I need to talk to you about something. Are you going to class?"

"It's just English, I can skip!"

"Thanks."

Sharanda led Kia to the side and began to ask for Kia's advice. People always went to her with their problems but she didn't mind. But what Sharanda had to ask about was the one thing that Kia couldn't give her advice on.
