Chapter Nine

"Hey J, where's the lighting fluid?", Joey yelled from the backyard.

Justin was in the kitchen with his mom helping her prepare the meat and other food. "It's in the garage Joey," Lynn yelled through the window. "So, Justin, you hardly told me about these girls that are coming over," she said.

"I know, it's just that we've only known them for a few days so I'm still trying to figure them out myself."

"But you guys must like them pretty much to invite them over, right?"

"Yeah, I guess so," he said washing his hands, "ask me again later on." He kissed his mom on the cheek and went to the back where the other guys were.

"I don't think we should trust Joey with lighting the grill," Chris said stepping back as Joey lit a match and threw it in. "Wow, I'm impressed, we're still in one piece," Chris said patting Joey on the back.

"I'm very skillful when it comes to food."

"Yeah, eating it!", Justin laughed.

"Hey, I think that's the street!", Kit said pointing to the left.

Kit was in the passenger seat and me, Linz, and Heather were in the back of Jen's Durango. Jen turned and we all looked for the house.

"There it is, that's Justin's Mercedes parked in the driveway."

Jen parked in front of a beautiful white house and we made our way up to the door. Linz rang the doorbell and a woman with curly blond hair came to the door.

"Well, you must be the reason the boys haven't sat down since the got here," she said smiling. I could then tell she had to be Justin's mom. "Come on in. The boys are in the back, you can go right through there," she said pointing towards the kitchen, "oh, and my name is Lynn."

We all introduced ourselves and made our way to the backyard. "Well, look who finally made it!", JC said running up to us.

"We would've been here sooner if Joey could give better directions," Linz teased as wrapped her arms around Joey's waist.

"Hey, I'm trying to cook here."

"Fine," Linz said walking away from him.

"Wait, I was just joking baby." Joey grabbed her and kissed her neck.

JC put his arm around Jen's waist, "Hey do you guys want to play a little b-ball?"

Lynn came outside, "you all can go on. I'll watch the food."

"Thanks Lynn," Joey said handing her the spatula.

All ten of us walked onto the court Justin had in his backyard. "Alright, let's have the guys against the girls," Justin said with a smirk.

"Fine by us," Kit said taking the ball away from him. What the guys didn't know was that we were all great and had played basketball through grade school, junior high, and high school.

"Don't worry, we'll take it easy on you," Justin said as he passed by.

"Oh, will you kind sir, we women are just so helpless," I said sarcastically. Everyone laughed and we started the game.

~1 hour later~ "Yeah, we won, we won, we won," Linz said dancing around Joey.

"Man, I didn't know ya'll could play ball like that," Justin said.

"You didn't ask," I said throwing him a towel.

"Hey guys let's go for a swim," JC said.

"Oh yeah, that sounds great," Jen added, taking his hand.

The guys went into the house to put on their swim trunks. By the time they came out we were already in the pool.

"Oh Yeah, baby!" Linz hollered and we all began whistling. They all jumped into the pool and at the same time splashing all of us. That started a big splashing war that lasted for a good 15 minutes. The guys finally surrendered and we cheered for our second victory of the day.

"Hey, let's play chicken!", JC said and went directly to Jen. Jen got up on his shoulders and Linz did the same with Joey. I noticed that Heather and Lance had made their way to the hot tub not paying attention to anything but eachother. Kit got up on Chris's shoulders.

"Hey, Kae, get up on Justin's shoulders so we have someone to face," Kit yelled.

I looked over at Justin and he swam toward me. I got up on his shoulders and pushed Kit and Chris down. "Oh yeah! Who's next!", I yelled.

"That'd be us," Jen said.

After a good struggle Jen pushed me down. We all swam around laughing and just having a good time when Lynn told us the food was ready. All of the guys shot out of the pool and sat down at the picnic table that was poolside. We were just getting out of the pool and they had already begun stuffing their faces.

"I've never seen such pigs," Jen said fixing her plate.

"You get used to it hun," Lynn said laughing.

"Oh man, that was good," Joey said patting his stomach.

"Thanks Lynn!", we all said at the same time.

"You're all very welcome," she said smiling.

"Hey, mom you need some help cleaning up?"

"Sure, Justin, that'd be nice."

Heather nudged me in my side. "Hey...um you want some help?" I said standing up.

"Yeah, ok."

Heather smiled and so did I. I followed Justin in the house and into the kitchen to find Lynn washing some dishes.

"Mom, you look tired, go rest, we can handle this."

"Thanks sweetie." Lynn thanked me too and went upstairs.

I started to wash the dishes while Justin dried. "That was someday," he finally said.

"Yeah, I...I mean, we all had a great time."

I saw Justin smile in the corner of my eye. My nose started to inch so I reached up and scratched it, not realizing my hands were all soapy. Justin turned to me and started laughing. "What? What is it??"

"You, you have suds on your face!" He took the towel and wiped my nose.

"Thanks. It would've been awful if the others saw. They live for pointing out when I look like an idiot."

"Nah, you even look cute covered in suds."

I stopped washing and turned toward Justin. He realized what he had just said and turned to me.

"You...you think I'm cute?", I asked, not sure if I wanted the answer.

"Uh...yeah, I mean, I'm sure people tell you all the time how beautiful you are."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

A big grin appeared on my face. "Well, I think you're very attractive."

Justin blushed at my directness and I did too. He took a step towards me and started to lean down towards my face. I closed my eyes in anticipation. I felt his hands on my waist and I placed my hands on his nicely toned chest. I could feel his hot breath as he got closer and what happened next was something I could have never anticipated.
