Part Two

But every time your love is near
And every time I'm filled with fear
'Cause every time I see your face
My heart does begin to race every time

Autumn looked up at the darkening sky; she hadn't realized she had spent the entire day showing JC around.

"Well, I better go…I hoped I was good tour guide!"

"The best I ever had, but do you have to go?"

JC was almost just as shocked by his statement as Autumn appeared to be.

"Um, yeah I'm leaving Florence tomorrow morning and heading for Greece."

"Oh…" JC said lowering his gaze.

"It was nice meeting you JC and good luck with the tour," she said quickly.

She smiled at him and walked away. JC watched, once again, as she walked away from him, this time he was sure he would never see her again…and he wasn't going to let it end like that.

"Autumn!" he said running up from behind her.

Autumn turned around, a bit happy to look into his eyes. "Yeah?"

"I…can I walk you back?"

"Sure, I guess…are you sure your friends won't be worried?"

"I'll call them later."

As they walked back to where Autumn was staying, JC tried to figure out how to express his feelings. He was new to this whole thing…he had never cared for someone so much so quickly. He had grown attached to Autumn in the span of a day. It scared him a little so he knew she would probably be terrified if he told her.

"Well, this is the place."

JC was snapped out of his thoughts as they came to a stop in front of a quaint little house.

"I'm staying with a wonderful Italian family; they've been incredibly hospitable."

"That's good," JC said quietly.

"I guess this is it then."

"Yeah, I guess."

"Goodbye JC."

Autumn turned away from him but JC grabbed her arm. She looked at him, confused by his actions.

"Autumn, I have to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"I…I like you…actually it's more than that…I think I…"

Autumn cut him off by putting her hand over his mouth.

"No, don't do this JC; let's just end this now before it goes anywhere else."

"But why…unless you don't feel anything."

One half wants me to go
Other half wants me to stay
I just get so all confused

Autumn looked down at the gravel walkway. "That's not it JC…I think I do but sometimes you can't follow everything your heart tells you to do."

"And in this case, you can't?"

"Exactly; I came to Europe to find myself again and I've come to realize that I have no room in my life for…for…"

"Love."

Autumn looked back into JC eyes…eyes that were filled with sadness and disappointment. "Yes…love."

"You're a very intelligent person Autumn…I realized that when I first met you, but you couldn't be more wrong about this…why are you closing yourself off to me?"

"It's a long story…but when your heart gets broken so badly, it's hard to put it out there and risk that happening again."

JC took Autumn's hands in his and looked her straight in the eyes. "Autumn, I don't know what happened to you and there's no way I'll ever fully comprehend what you feel, but I do know my own heart and it's telling me not to let you go."

Autumn slipped her hands out of JC's grasp. "I'm sorry JC…I just can't do it." She leaned up and gently kissed his cheek. "Bye," she whispered and went inside the house, leaving JC in a painful daze.

"Goodbye Autumn," he whispered and walked away.

JC knew in the back of his mind that it was no coincidence that he met the perfect girl for him in a café in Italy. And it hurt him that Autumn couldn't see that as well. He prayed silently to himself that this wasn't the end…if it was fate, it couldn't be over.

I'm scared to fall in love
Afraid to love so fast
'Cause every time I fall in love
It seems to never last
