“Mr. Chasez?”
JC opened his eyes and looked up at his butler standing in his doorway.
“What is it?”
“Um, Mr. Fatone is here to see you.”
JC’s eyes became wide but then it developed into a frown. Joey Fatone was the leader of the Brujah clan. Ventrue and Brujah hated eachother but JC tolerated him in order to keep peace between the two clans.
“Tell him to wait for me in my study.”
“Yes sir.”
JC climbed out of bed but not before realizing that Jana didn’t come to him last night. In the beginning, they were always together and couldn’t keep their hands off eachother, but in the past century she had grown somewhat distant. JC shrugged it of--he had more important things to deal with. He jumped into the shower and then got dressed. He put on a pair of black pants and a black satin shirt. He walked down the stairs of his huge house and saw his close friend waiting in the foyer.
“Trevor, you’re up early,” JC said smiling.
“Yeah, well it’s a good thing I came over; that asshole Fatone decided to pay you a visit.”
“I know.”
“Let me get rid of him JC.”
“NO, I’ll hear him out.”
Trevor frowned. He couldn’t stand the Brujah and hated them even more since Joey was their leader. Trevor himself led the Gangrel clan, street-smart vampires. Just then the front door opened and Jana walked in. JC suddenly forgot about Joey and focused on the fact that Jana didn’t come home last night.
“Where the hell have you been?!” he said grabbing her arm.
“God shut up!” she said holding her head.
“Are you drunk?”
“No that was last night, this is just a massive hangover.”
JC sighed and shook his head. “Trevor, will you take her to her room?”
Trevor nodded and grabbed her arm away from JC.
“Ooh T, do you like it rough?” she said seductively.
“Don’t even think about it.”
Trevor dragged Jana upstairs while JC walked to his study. He opened the doors and walked in. He found Joey sitting in a chair in front of his desk.
“It’s about time,” JC heard him mumble.
“What do you want Joey?”
JC sat down in his desk chair and glared at Joey. He had his usual smart-ass grin on his face. Ever since JC became Prince, Joey became more difficult to deal with. Joey felt he should be Prince and hated everything about JC.
“I’m sure you know what year this is?”
“I’ve known about it even before you existed, remember that.”
Joey smiled a cocky grin. “You don’t stand a chance JC but if you step down as Prince I might spare your bitch Jana…I must say she’s a fine piece of ass.”
This infuriated JC; just the thought of Joey’s hands on Jana made him nauseous.
“If you even think about touching her I’ll rip your fucking head off!” JC yelled, standing up.
“Whoa, testy are we…don’t worry I’ll take care of her…I bet she’s a good fuck, huh?”
JC pounded his fists on the desk and then walked around to Joey. He grabbed his collar and pulled him up.
“I should kill your ass right now!”
“Oh but that would go against the prophecy now wouldn’t it?” he said with a grin.
It was known that no violence between the clans could occur before the day of the leap year, Feb. 29. JC didn’t dare break the law so he put Joey down. Joey smiled and smoothed out his shirt.
“Don’t worry, when the time comes, you’ll beg for my forgiveness.”
With that he walked out of the study. JC thought he would boil over in anger. Trevor walked into the study to find JC in a state of rage.
“The time will come JC, he will be destroyed along with his whole clan.”
“Where’s Jana?” he said trying to avoid the topic.
“In her room, passed out on her bed.”
“I don’t want to see anyone else today.”
JC walked past Trevor and upstairs. He went into Jana’s room to see her on the bed where Trevor left her. He walked over and sat next to her. He ran his hand up and down her back. She slowly opened her eyes and even though she had a hangover, she could see JC was in distress.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have stayed out so late."
“It’s okay baby, you just rest.”
He kissed her forehead and laid down next to her. Jana drifted back off to sleep and JC watched her peaceful slumber. Joey’s words echoed through his head. JC knew he might not survive the war but he was going to do whatever it took to protect Jana, but the problem was he didn’t know what he could do exactly.
