"So, are you going to tell him?"
"I don't think I can Jules."
"Lexi, just tell him how you feel. I'm sure he feels the same way."
"And if he doesn't? I don't want to ruin anything between us…I mean we've been best-friends since we were kids."
"And that's why you need to be honest with him."
"Maybe you're right. Anyway, I told him I'd see him off before they all leave."
"Okay. Call me later."
"K, bye."
"Later."
Alexis hung up the phone and went downstairs. She grabbed her coat and keys and walked out the house. She hopped in her car and started driving over to her best-friend's house. She had known Justin all her life and they were inseparable, at least until he moved to Florida to work for Disney. But they promised eachother to keep their friendship strong, and they have. He was getting ready to leave to start a world tour with NSync. Alexis had recently discovered that her feelings for Justin went beyond just friendship. She was in love with him but she didn't know how or if she should tell him. She hurried to get to his house since she was running a little late; she would hate herself if she missed the chance to say good-bye to him. As she drove she heard her cell phone ring. She dug through her purse with one hand until she finally found her phone. She put it up to her ear.
"Hello?"
"Lexi, where are you girl?"
"Oh hey Justin. Sorry I'm late; I'm almost there though."
"I'm not sure how much longer I can stall. Johnny's been calling, nagging me to get my butt down to the studio."
"Shit, well you should just go then."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I'm sure. Oh Justin?" Alexis knew this would be her chance to tell Justin everything.
"Yeah?"
"Uh…will you call me when you get to LA?"
"Of course sweetie, bye."
"Bye."
Alexis hung up and sighed. She had her chance and she blew it.
"God, I'm such an idiot!" she said to herself. "No, I have to tell him."
She picked her cell phone back up and began dialing Justin's cell number. As she did this, she failed to notice the car to her left that decided to run the red light. Before she could react, the oncoming car barreled into her side. Her car was pushed into a nearby ditch, the driver side completely crushed. Her phone flew from her limp hand and for Alexis, everything was suddenly black.

There are times
I swear I know you're here
I forget about my fears
Feelin you my dear

Justin had just arrived at the studio as was getting on the bus with the rest of the guys when his cell phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Justin…"
"Hi Mom, we were just getting on the bus…is everything okay, what did I forget?"
"Sweetie, it's Lexi…"
"What do you mean, what's wrong?"
"I'm at the hospital hun, I think you should come as soon as you can," Lynn said sadly.
"Okay…I'm on my way…"
Justin hung up with his mother and told the guys he had to go. Not explaining why and ignoring their protests, he jumped into his car and sped off. A short while later, he arrived at the hospital. He made his way to emergency to see his mother, and Alexis' family sitting in the waiting room. Lynn got up and walked over to her son, embracing him tightly.
"Mom, where's Lexi, what's going on?"
"There was an accident sweetie…"
"No, I just talked to her…she's fine."
"I'm so sorry baby."
Lynn led Justin over to everyone else and they all waited together. About 2 hours later, the doctor walked into the room. Everyone stood up and stared at the doctor. Justin immediately noticed the solemn look on his face. He walked up to Alexis' parents, prepared to deliver whatever news he had.
"Mr. & Mrs. Davis?"
"Yes, how's our daughter?" Alexis' mother asked, her eyes full of hope.
The doctor took a deep breath. "Alexis has suffered massive head injuries. She's on a respirator…which is the only thing keeping her alive, if you can call it that."
"Wait, what are you saying?" her father asked.
"Her brain has been damaged beyond repair…I'm very sorry."

Now baby there are times when selfishly
I wishin that you were here with me
So I can wipe the tears from your eyes and make you see
That every night when you are dreamin
I'm here to guard you from afar
And anytime I feel in love
I'll close my eyes and dream of where you are

Justin watched as her mother collapsed in a heap on the floor. Lynn rushed to help her. Justin sat back down in his seat…still in shock. It hadn't sunken in what was happening. He sat there, in a world of his own until he felt someone put their hand on his shoulder…it was his mother.
"Sweetie, you been sitting here for almost an hour."
Justin just stared blankly at his mother. "Deb and Bill have decided to cut the life support…I think you should go see her."
Justin slowly got up and walked toward Alexis' room. Her family and friends were standing outside her door. Julie, Alexis' friend walked up to Justin and hugged him.
"She…she love you Justin…she just didn't know how to tell you," she choked out.
Justin still didn't speak a word…he hadn't since he arrived there. Mrs. Davis seemed to be in so much pain as Mr. Davis held her. Justin walked past them into the room. Alexis was in a semi dimmed room. The room was completely quiet except for the beeps of the machines. Justin walked up beside her and sat in the chair. He took her hand in his, noticing how it was still so warm. He brought it to his lips and kissed it gently, it was then that he let his tears fall…the tears he was holding in for so long. He looked at her through his watered over blue eyes. She looked so peaceful, like she was just taking a nap and would wake up at any time.
"Lexi…this can't be happening. Why is this happening?" Justin said though tears. "I should've waited for you or come to you…you shouldn't be here."
Justin was interrupted by a nurse walking into the room.
"I have to turn them off now, son," she said motioning to the machine.
Justin held Alexis' hand tighter as the nurse flipped a single switch. He watched Alexis and listened as the beeps became fewer until there was nothing. He buried his head in his hands. He looked back up at Alexis, remembering the girl he had grown up with, the girl who he played pranks on all the time, the girl who was his heart.
"I love you too Lexi…I've always loved you and I always will…"
Justin leaned up and kissed her lips for the first time. He wrapped his arms around her and held her to him, never wanting to let go…lost in his pain, until the day he would be with her once again.

Watchin over me
My hope sees
What the future will bring
When you wrap your wings
And take me where you are
Where you and I will be together
Once again, we'll be dancin in the moonlight
Just like we used to do
And you'll be smilin back at me
Only then will I be free
When I can be, where you are
Where you and I will breathe together
Once again we'll be dancin in the moonlight
Just like we used to do
And you'll be smilin back at me (you'll be smilin back at me)
Baby I still believe
Oh I gotta believe
I still believe
I will touch you that sweet day
That you take me there
Where you are, oh where you are!
I still believe
I gotta believe
I still believe
I'll always be waiting here
